whan man utd signed ronaldo and nani they already had a solid team of good players witch we dont we have an average squad full of sh!t to get someone like sanchez now would be completely wrong we aren't ready for that type of player
i find it shocking any liverpool fan could have such a lack of ambition. its like saying we shouldn't have signed suarez because we wern't ready for him!?!?! can't help but disagree. all great teams have great players, match winners. isnt that what we are aspiring to be?

Spot on. We aren't ready for a top player? Makes no sense. Absolute nonsense.

Absolute nonsense. so we spend 35 million ponds on sanchez that is pretty much all of our transfer budget and what have we got? 1 player, we need about 6 players just to start being competitive again. here's how i see it we are some way behind the current top 5, so over the next 3 transfer windows we need to build a squad as good and hopefully better than their's and only then can we think of putting most of our eggs into one basket and signing a player like sanchez. players like sanchez, hazard and patore are final piece's to a puzzle and right now we can barely fill in the edges of the lfc puzzle. its not lack of ambition its just a bit realism and common sense

I see your point to be fair, if it is a case of 3 positions getting better or 1 position becoming world class we could leave ourselves very short as we are already shitty when it comes to a lot of positions. But I honestly think we will be spending more money than that, and buying one top player and maybe 2 or 3 better than what we have players why selling the [oops] for me is the way to go.

it would be nice to have really big names on our team sheet and maybe it would be possible if we have about 50-55 million + the dead wood money to spend, but i do think thats a bit optimistic. mainly i just hope we dont sign someone like sanchez and then back that signing up with average buys like enrique, dann, adam, downing etc.

Isn't the important thing to spend the money on the players we need, rather than the players we dream of having? Filling the holes in the squad has to be much more important than a marquee signing right now; next summer there will still be a 35m pound striker for us to drool over, he just won't be among the ones we're drooling over now, is all.

Cavani is a goal scoring machine. People tend to forget, but the most important part of being a striker is scoring goals. Cavani does this as well as anyone not named Ronaldo or Messi. I think Edinson Cavani would be a tremendous addition to Liverpool. Play him up front with Carroll, and have Suarez slightly behind in a no.10 type of role. kuyt working hard as the 5th attacker, and then strong midfield (lucas?) to go with a good central defender. If Liverpool can get some strong defensive players along with someone like Cavani, then surely top 4 next year is achievable.

Top4 is achievable if we just plug those holes at leftback, cb, etc. Cavani would be a great signing but I don;t know if he fits along with carrol and suarez.

Left wing, Left back, CB, CM. That's the order I would look at filling.
Thundyr I do agree with u mate, but whilst he cost 35 mill, he isnt really a 35 million pound player is he? I know that sounds stupid on the face of it, but we all know we over paid. I'd say looking at one top player per year, plus one or two good players to fill holes per year would see us competing in 2 years time and top 4 sooner than that. However I think myself and even more so some of the people on this thread who think we can compete for top 4 next year don't realise how far behind we are.

Posted this on another thread but just as relevant to this discussion so thought I'd post it here again: Kenny Dalglish 'to use Liverpool funds for single big star, not squad depth' Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is set to be given a 'significant' transfer budget to use this summer - but rather than add depth to his squad, he is set to rely on younger players from the academy and use the money for one big star.
