I have been posting last two weeks about bad signals re NSEV and John Henry. In the paper shop just now and I see these headlines in my local paper Liverpool Echo. These are from board discussions re new suitors. Ok maybe they are from the court case and all sorts of mud will come out but Purslow’s assessment is exactly what the signals coming out now. Particularly that he does not have the resources for a new stadium.

Purslows Letter
TO GET it straight, I think we should avoid the natural temptation to jump straight in to the deal with NESV. Whilst they are charming, intelligent and credible their bid is by any standards at the extreme bottom end of the of the ‘right deal’ threshold we set for ourselves: it only reduces debt by less than half and is I feel unlikely to yield incremental equity to fund a stadium.
“They may say they have money if necessary but I do not take this very seriously. Their eyes only lit up at the idea of other opportunity improvements. An American deal guy simply can't avoid using other people's money if they can.
"There is no extra money on the table to enable short-term investment in what remains a squad palpably needing more quality if we are to be definitively top four. New American sport team owners with the senior guy being a hedge fund manager could not be worst from an image standpoint, which is an issue for us independents. I have not even talked about valuation. I leave that to other members of the board.

The fact that Cecil did not like them is a good thing surely as we all know he is a lying snake, anyhow the date on that original email is 6 weeks prior to the done deal so who knows what the final agreement was?Just h&g stirring up sh1t again.

It would be worrying if Purslow didn't have a history of getting pretty much everything wrong. From appointing Roy, to ignoring Kenny, to lying constantly for the previous regime re transfer funds to trying to act as manager giving Roy a list of players he doesnt think is good enough.

TBH I think Purslow is full of his own self importance and thankfully he is not actively involved in the club any more.

He may have felt this way about NESV at the start but things must have obviously changed as he states in the above email that they will only rid the club of half the debt where infact in the end they cleared the club of everything but operating debt.

He may have liked richer owners but you can only choose from those actually at the table and there really didn't seem to be much interest from many rival bidders with serious money. We couldnt have accepted a bid from people like the Qatari royal family for example because no one with that kind of money seemed to be interested in buying the club.

Time will tell if they made the right decision but the new owners are going about things the right way so far IMO.

I think we have to have faith in what they are doing and look at what they do in other parts of the Fenway group i.e the Red Sox and made them winners. They obviously did have money to spend short term to improve the squad as deals were in the offing for Suarez (completed) , Adam (Scuppered by Holloway) and Young (strong rumours) before the Torres thing happened. I can still remember Purslow punching the air outside the High Court when the deal was done, so perhaps it's possible the deal changed after he sent that e-mail or, shock horror, he had a change of heart (maybe journo's don't realise people can change their minds from time to time!) We also have to trust Kenny who can only say good things about the owners and how disappointed they were not to make more January signings. The signs are good so I remain positive and behind Henry, Werner and Co.

You know my theory about the debt please don't ask me to post the reason again but I feel the debt is still on the club just not in cash flow terms.

In a court case the plaintiff will always only produce one side of the story. That letter was obviously produced prior to a bid being accepted - who knows what the final bid was? I'd say let's see how the case unfolds and finishes before jumping to conclusions.

The last thiing we need to be worrying about now is another episode of the owners. There only four months into there stewardship and there has been positive signs, with the appointment of kenny and the transfer window.

I was loving the fact that the last few weeks Liverpool was getting on the back pages because of football reasons, and the fans and players have benefited from it, and the form has shown that.

Now the players are going to pick up the papers and read this shiiite. Itl plant a seed in there heads that the owners might not be good enough. Especially gerrard and carragher who where so far up purslow and eachothers arse they couldn't see daylight.

The echo should no better than to print Shiite like this. And in all fairness, people should take no notice of it.

My view of if is hicks and gillet are back in the country fighting the injunction so they can claim for damages. And leaking this supposedly letter by purslow only makes there case stronger that even a board member thought the bid was not seemed good enough.

There back two minutes and we are in the papers for the WRONG reasons

Yes of course this is to do with muck spreading on the court case. But you have to say its not inconsistent with some of the signals of late. The proof of the pudding will be in Henry's plans for a new stadium. A stadium this club's status and fans deserve or a bargain basement solution.

We will have to wait and see.
