Guys, having already seen a new summer transfer thread, I am not quite sure where people see the new additions in the summer fitting in.
Allot of us guys have spoken about the fact that we need an out an out winger (Young, Hazard). But where would we play him/them, as our current formation is something I've always thought would work best for us.
In our current system, you have 3cb, Johnno and Kelly wide, Lucas as DM, Gerrard as CM with Meireles, Carroll and Suarez up top. How would we alter this to include 2 new wingers?

easy, move kelly and johnson back at full back and put the two wingers instead of them. I have a feeling kenny is using this formation until we get wingers. its working at the moment but i would rather have young on the left wing than johnson.
Drop lucas and play a simple 4-4-2. carroll needs wingers and suarez needs gerrard.

The current system is designed to give us width whilst we have no wingers. After the summer purchases he will change it.

If we are serious about spending more time on the opposition's side of the pitch, we will eventually (when KK has signed the appropriate attacking players = wingers) start playing:
1) 4-4-2
or
2) 4-3-3
or
3) 3-5-2
or maybe even
4) 4-2-4
No matter which of these formations to use, we need more competent defensive players in the squad.
Adapting to a system where we are playing 3 central defenders to keep a clean sheet (like against Chelski), is a symptom of us lacking in player quality.
At the same time it's also a waste of attacking opportunities.
So far we've not been but this kind of question very oftenly, simply because we've been playing only with one man on top. Now we have 2 leathal weapons to load, which means we'll have to sacrifice some of the dubble layers further back the pitch, to make room for both Carroll and Suarez.
Will we still be able to keep clean sheets then?
I seriously doubt it.
What we need to get our hands on, is at least 1 potent center back and 2 wingers.
I vote for Shawcross, Turan and Pablo Hernandez!

For now 3-5-2 is probably our best formation while we struggle both up front and out wide, but I don't think it will be our primary weapon for long. I think ultimately we will play either 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. With our current squad that would require a center back and a left winger at a minimum. However, to play 4-3-3 we would preferably get a right winger as apparently Suarez prefers the left side of the pitch (read that somewhere, but don't quote me for truth). In either case Gerrard-Lucas-Meireles should remain a midfield set, with the left-sided player outside Meireles or ahead of him depending on the formation. At the back, Kelly and Agger are certain to remain where they are currently picked, but Agger's partner and the left back position remain weaker than we would like despite Johnson's improving defensive capabilities there. We really do need a left-footed player to whip the ball in for Carroll from the the left while Gerrard and Kelly tee him up from the right.
I would not be at all surprised to see this later this season, maybe even against West Ham:
------------Reina--------------- --Kelly--Carra--Agger--Johnson-- -Gerrard-Lucas-Meireles-Aurelio- --------Carroll--Suarez---------
If anyone can get Gerrard to play on the right again it's Kenny. The alternative is the same diamond formation that Chelsea tried against us, with Meireles behind the strikers and Gerrard and Lucas making runs from deeper, but I'm not convinced that plays enough to Carroll's primary strength (in the air). In both cases I'd start Aurelio over Maxi on the basis of him being left-footed.
The alternative is to try 4-3-3: ------------Reina--------------- --Kelly--Carra--Agger--Johnson-- -----Gerrard-Lucas-Meireles----- -----Kuyt--Carroll--Suarez------
The only thing I am certain of is that Kenny will be spoiled for choice when it comes to his tactical deployment despite having 8 or 9 players who essentially pick themselves.

i don't think this will be our typical formation. its something we've used to adapt to get the best out of the side. carroll is out injured. suarez will no doubt partner him against the lesser sides. when we come up against the bigger sides away from home 3-5-2 is perfect for us.

The more I think about it, I don;t believe SG & RM would be a good central duo in a four-man midfield. Both are attacking players by nature and to ask either to "sit" or to have them share that responsibility would, IMHO, be a waste of there talents going forward. Leave RM in the middle. As for SG, look to play him wide right in a four-man midfield or with RM and a holding player (better than what we have) in a central 3.
In God we trust. Everyone else is a suspect.

KD is looking to sign at least 3 pacey defenders in the summer, who can play anywhere in the back 3 or 4 or as wing backs.
thats why KD tried to sign Richards, last month because he can play as 1 of the 3 defenders, add pace to our defence and also play as a wing back.
i wud lov KD to sign.. richards, sahko, cissokho. sell.... skrtel, johnson, konchesky, soto.
players like Turan, Young, mv'lia, Adam need to be signed. sell... cole, maxi, lucas.
sign gomez, sell..kuyt,
the above players signed... KD can play 442, 433, 352 system. 442.......reina kelly sahko agger cissohko turan sg meireles young carroll suarez
433.... reina kelly sahko agger cissohko sg m'vlia Young gomez carroll suarez
352............reina .....richards agger cissohko Turan sg mv'lia meireles young carroll suarez

I personally think that Kenny, Steve C and Sammy have basically got everyone guessing what we will play next, it is a fantastic position to be in. Teams will not be able to prepare for games against us because they will not have a clue who will start and what formation will be used. Am sure we will see 4-4-2 and 3-5-2, probably also a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 before the end of the season. Wingers are defo needed and can play in a 3-5-2, just take away the wing backs, if the central midfield is disciplined enough we would have adequate cover while these wingers bomb on.
Exciting times guys, exciting times

Kenny is preparing the lads for these different formations so he can switch between them during games if needed without the players being confused. Great management and coaching!
