Liverpool close in on Ligue 1 midfielder Saint Etienne enforcer lined up for Anfield move
Liverpool will make an eleventh hour bid for Saint Etienne's Blaise Matuidi. The defensive midfielder has been monitored by the Reds for some time and with their pursuit of Blackpool's Charlie Adam unlikely to be completed before the transfer window closes, they will approach the French club with an offer in the region of £6.5m.
The 23-year-old has been mainstay at Stade Geoffrey-Guichard since his move from Troyes in 2007 and has been the driving force behind the Ligue 1 club's bid for Champions League football with Saint Etienne sitting sixth in Le Championnat. A classy technical footballer that never shirks a tackle, Matuidi is seen as the ideal replacement for Javier Mascherano who departed for Barcelona last summer and has not been adequately replaced.
Liverpool will need to act quickly if they want to get their man but with the Luis Suarez deal all but done they will now be able to concentrate all their energies on securing the Frenchman's transfer.

And so is this:
Manchester United to join Liverpool in race for £14m midfielder Former Rangers man at centre of tug of war between rivals
Manchester United have joined the race to sign Blackpool's Charlie Adam. The Scotland midfielder has been one of the most talked about names in the January transfer window with both Liverpool and Aston Villa seeing bids rejected for the 25-year-old. The former Rangers player has been one of the stars of the Premier League season with his dynamic displays helping the Tangerines to some extraordinary results including doing the double over the men from Anfield.
A player very much in the mould of Steven Gerrard, United want him to marshal their midfield but will wait until the end of the season to make their move. This fits in with Blackpool manager Ian Holloway's plans as, while he is happy for Adam to fulfil his ambitions at a big club, he is reluctant to let the player go before Premier League status is secure for next season.
United also know that Adam will have just a year to run on his contract come the summer and will therefore be able to acquire his services for a more reasonable price than the £14m that is being quoted at the moment.

Liverpool to use Torres cash to sign £14m replacement Holland hitman to replace Spaniard at Anfield
iverpool will use some of the cash from the potential sale of Fernando Torres to finance a move for long-term target Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
The FC Utrecht hitman has been on the radar at Anfield and his 11 goals in the Eredivisie this term outstrip the seven scored by Liverpool's latest recruit Luis Suarez. Standing 6' 1", van Wolfswinkel would provide a different threat to that of the Uruguayan. His promise has already been recognised at international level having made his debut in a friendly against Ukraine and no he mayt be given the chance to shine in the Premier League.
Any deal is contingent on Fernando Torres leaving for Chelsea who are believed to be preparing an improved offer for the Spaniard in the region of £45m. While either Nicolas Anelka or Daniel Sturridge are expected to be offered as part of that offer, Reds boss Kanny Dalglish will still want to bring in one more front man to ease the burden on Suarez and any other new rivals.
With cash in their pocket and little time to negotiate, Liverpool will have to pay around the £14m mark to make the deal go through before 11pm on Monday.

do you think there is any chance of us signing another player in this window? as has been said, we need more width in the team. As happy as i am that saurez has joined, it seems like we have spent too long focusing on him and have made no real effort to bring in other players
