Because there isn't much other choices if his ambition is to win a league and/or play in Champions league.

Look at the teams who consistently challenge for the league title and play in the Champions league

In the premiership:
Arsenal - but they can't afford him
Man Utd - I believe Torres wouldn't join them because of our rivalry
Chelsea - can afford him

La Liga
R.Madrid - Rivalry with former club A.Madrid
Barca - probably can't afford him due to their current debts and have too many options as it is

Serie A
Inter & AC - i doubt they can afford 50mil right now and i have never heard of any offers from them in the last couple of years.

So you can all see his choices are limited to Chelsea and ....Chelsea.

Rivalry doesn't count if he just wants to win silverware. You or anybody thinks that no way Torres will wear a united or a real madrid shirt but the reality is in todays world that is perfectly possible. Torres heard of chelseas and offer and he wanted an excuse to leave so he handed in a transfer request. If real madrid made a bid believe me that rivalry stuff would be forgotten. Never trust modern footballers as I have learned that the hard way in the past couple of years.

Good post! Chealsea aren't exactly hated by Liverpool the same way as the mancs and everton. The only reason they are disliked is because of there success. Success and hatred go hand in hand unfortunately

As I've already said, I think something has been going on that nobody knows about. Don't judge him when you don't know his reasons

I hope he stays, but if not he obviously has his reasons. Thanks Nando, good luck.

If he wants to sell his soul for a better chance of some medals, then surely picking a team on their way up like City is a better option than an over the hill Chelsea team? I guess the reason City haven't joined them in a bidding war is due to them signing Dzeko

He wouldn't be a standout player at city. I think Torres likes being the centre of attention.

Lets not forget that Chelsea will make him their highest paid player. I still think he owes it to us to stay until the summer. He was going no where fast when we bought him and turned him into one of the best strikers in the world.

If he goes its just more confirmation to me that football is dead. Killed off by money.

Spot on the modern football world and player is not about the game or winning first.
It's about money first. Same thing with Rooney earlier in the season. More money for Torres and his agent.
If it is about winning, then why doesn't he take a pay cut and try to get a deal with Barca?

I keep asking myself why Chelsea? He's being badly advised and could regret it big time. I think Spurs could easily pip them for 4th and he's joining a squad which needs improving in all areas. Lampard, Terry, Drogba and Malouda are all either 30 or the wrong side of 30. He's purely wanted by Abramovich as a trophy signing. He did it with Shevchenko and look what happened to him. Good luck El Nino - you're going to need it, just don't come crying when it all goes wrong.

No matter where Nando ends up he will NEVER be loved the same as he was for us.
