And that's fine, but if you're in a position where unless the apology comes you will leave then you're not in it for the club anymore; that's all I'm saying. I agree that it takes 2 to destroy a relationship, and Rafa isn't best at repairing things once they've gone awry, but was Xabi here to play football or not? If my boss pisses me off and refuses to apologize later, if I choose to resign that's still my decision to abandon my company. The fact that "Alonsogate" went to Gerrard's head as well amply demonstrates that the players decided to choose to hate Rafa rather than choosing to work with him despite his idiosyncracies for the good of the club (to whom they owed everything).

I'm very clear on the difference between these two players - Alonso was not a mercenary. But the fact that he couldn't accept that he might get sold because he wasn't good enough went to his head. Some people term that "getting a rocket". Some people respond by improving their performance. He did that. Having done that most people accept they could have been better, and then keep going. He didn't do that; he took the easy option to join RM.

EDIT: fact remains that if Alonso was so happy here, why wasn't he prepared to bury the hatchet? Had his departure not been the final straw leading to the demise of the squad nobody would care.

Cannot blame xabi or Masch for leaving Liverpool. Rafa was responsible for Alonso leaving and Masch could see the writing on the wall after the lack of investment by the owners.

TBH I reckon we could have him back when he decicides to leave Real in 2-4 years time.

He never had pace, all he has is passing and standing tackle qualities that make him a defensive shield. SO I say make a move in 2-4 years time to get him back

Upcoming world class players IMO for 2014 WORLD CUP:
K-P Boateng, Gotze, Sturridge, Kroos, Lucas Leiva, Hummels, Kyriakos Papadopoulos,

No-one can blame Xabi for leaving, he was clearly not wanted by Benitez and there was no clear sign that Benitez was going to leave anytime soon either.

You know what you can blame Mascherano for? Refusing to play for the club whilst still getting paid to do so and having no excuse not to. The man lost all my respect after that.

Xabi will always have my respect, Javier never ever will.

He never kept his mouth shut on the pitch either!
Never forget when he got sent off against utd because he couldn't keep his mouth shut. He was an idiot.

It would be good to have him back but lets not forget he only really had a couple of good seasons with us, his first and last. The only reason Rafa was looking to sell him was that he was playing [oops]. I remember most weeks hearing pundits saying he wasn't quick enough for the EPL and at the time I agreed. But when in the shop window (his last season) he picked it up and proved he was our best player.

I personaly cant stand footballers nowadays, think there all merceneries who just dont live in the real world. Having just said that if there were two players I did happen to like who on a footballing side did'nt seem anywhere near as bad as most footballers they were Xabi Alonso and big Sami, will always have a bit of a soft spot for those two...
