You have to do whats best for your career when your a player, it's not as though players actualy love who they play for, they see it as a job nothing more nothing less...

Understand that, but footballers are now a unique category amongst employees in this country (definitely since 1992 and Sky's involvement). Owen must have been financially secure for the rest of his life before reaching his 21st birthday and after all, we work to live not live to work. Or at least anyone sensible does.

Michael Owen was offered employment by several eminent clubs but elected to join Man United, despite knowing full well he would have limited opportunities to play and they are hated enemies of the club that made him a footballing superstar. Couldn't we expect just a bit of gratitude and loyalty?

I can't stand the guy now.

I think in life and in anyone’s professional career, it’s not just what you do but the way you do it... That separates those that have a class about the things they do and those that are just @ssed about the things they do.

If you look at Michael Owen's career you get a sense that he was very clinical about things. He comes across just self serving.
Its not the fact that he left us but the way he left us to go to Madrid.
He had a chance to come back to us but he chose Newcastle and he is not highly thought of at that club as well because of the way he did things there.
When he took the bait from the enemy and signed for them, it was also the way he did.
He had a good career with us and his best years were with us which he got paid and idolised for.
What grates me, is that I think he thinks he did us a favour and we were lucky to have him.
He tends to forget or not acknowledge the oportunity LFC had afforded him.
But that is unfortunately the modern footballer... one would think Michael Owen was one of the mercenary foreign players in the PL.

This is the thing I find most baffling. Michael has generally managed his career really well from a financial point of view. The move to Madrid is probably fair play in my eyes. The move to Newcastle was also his only choice, contrary to the belief LFC were interested(we had no funds)- as mentioned by Parry some years ago.

However the general issue of why he was not loved comes down to his constant reference to England. When he was injured it was 'be back playing for England soon' and this bugged many fans hence we never really idolised him like Fowler or Dalglish. This brings me to my point, why sign for Manu when you are told playing time would be limited? Therefore reducing his chances of playing for England?? I remember Villa and Spurs were interested at the time. For a player now 31 he has ruined the last 4yrs of his career.

Good werds cp, good werds, and true too.

No worries for him now though, living in his mansion up Ewloe Hill, helicopter pad, stables full of his bloody nags.

Don't suppose he's ever going to have to worry about his mortgage payments, leccy and gas bills, wheather he can afford to take his kids away to Pontins for a weekend treat, is he ey? whistle
