Spot on my arse.
It's all about signing the right players, which many of our managers haven't done, we've signed way too many duds, or decided in our wisdom not to sign players who became good enough (Aguero, C. Ronaldo etc) It's nothing to do with the 80's, we've had chances to improve, and even chances to win the league under Houllier and Rafa who both came 2nd one year each and failed to make it count when they needed to. to many poor managers, to many poor players and too much money spent on players not worth it have took there toll, what we are seeing now is what has been sown from the past, we will never reach those heights again unfortunately...

Look at all the sucessful clubs in the world at the moment. What do they all have, a quality manager who can bring the best out of players and the team. It was not just the Russains billions Chelsea became a force Jose initiated it, Arsenal Wenger and Barca Pep. While we have had a couple of crack pots Mourinho bought the league at Chelsea without Roman's money they would not of challenged United, Arsene Wenger came into a Club that had only in recent years won a league title he still had the backbone of Seaman, Dixon, Winterburn, Adams, Keown, Wright and Bergkamp so he never had that much more to do besides maybe bring in Veira and Overmars, Guardiola again came into a club that had only gone a few years without winning there own League with players like Ronaldinho, Decco and Eto. Liverpool are the only so called big Club in the world which has gone so long without real success apart from one solitary Champions league in over 21 years, Madrid, Barca, Benfica, Ajax, Bayern, Inter, Juve, Feynoord, Porto e.t.c. have all at least won the league a few times in that time which shows just how hard the job Hodgson has to do. What is happening to us right now has happened to Huddersfield fans in the 30's, Leeds United fans in the 70's and Everton fans in the 80's we have all had our time but always think our time will return but it never does, it's just football romance...

i think roy will decide his own fate if we continue to under perform in the league. the owners are aware of poor league position given our stature and will do what it takes to be successful but do it in the right way. i think they feel roy still has an opportunity to prove himself and make this team his own. they expect us to be challenging for the title within 3 to 5 years time so that speaks volumes of what they are intending to do. they are not stupid and if it came to a point in which our best players wanted to leave the club because of a lack of faith in their manager then they would immediately step in. i know as liverpool fans we have been hard done by these last few years but i don't think we need to be so negative. watch the interview with john henry, thomas werner and ian ayre from lfc tv on the offical lfc site

I agree we are certainly in a better place today than this time last year. The number of good opportunities and positives far outway the negatives. Our only real problem is that of the manager, how much time do we give him? personally i feel he should go tomorrow, that said stability is what we crave and require. We need to look around - UTD have an ageing team, no money, a manager nearing his end and therefore facing a massive power vacuum when he goes. Chelsea also with an ageing squad are a club who's owner constantly interfere's. Man City is a greedy mess that short term will not be sorted. Only Arsenal seem to have some sort of control and their fans are getting miffed with Wenger over lack of success.
I would prefer we be further up the table and the manager be more ambitious but the good times are nearer than what is percieved today.

Reclaim, yes and no. Your point is well made about other 'big' clubs not going as long as Liverpool without winning their domestic title.
Some context, however, I don't think ANY fan thought that this year specifically Liverpool were in with a shot at the title; our expectations have been lowered, though not, I'm glad to say, as far down as yours i.e. that we'll never come back to prominence. I truly believe that with a fully functioning manager rather than a hunker-down-and-hope, surrender-monkey we might have had a chance with the way all the other teams are imploding. RH has handed the initiative too many times to the opposition, he's a walking white flag.
I wasn't ANTI RH's appointment when it was made but definitely not enthused either. A manager (and certainly one of his age) needs an impressive CV or some aura of the possible - think what Owen Coyle has done at Bolton. Roy has neither and that combined with his underwhelming grasp of changing formation/personnel/approach to gain tactical supremacy (despite his years of experience when we're poor we stay poor the whole game) leads me to think that this is it - all he has is this.
It's sad to say it but he offers no cause for optimism that he can turn it round - his signings, his record in the top flight here, his willingness to change things around, his demeanour all shouts loser and lost.
This manager will not improve this club. He may improve on his woeful start but he will not take the club forward aand that is his primary role.

I feel we as a Club are like an Aberdeen or Hearts trying to compete with Celtic and Rangers. People think because we have new owners we will now be a force, I personaly dont see it that way, I think we will be run well similar to Aston Villa with there American owners, yes they will give us a bit of money to spend but not money for 20 million pound or more players like some fans seem to think, they will sort the Ground out and keep the Club ticking over on an even keel but they wont be owners trying to win leagues and European Cups in my opinion like those at City.

and incidentally in the present financial climate the big teams aren't so powerful as u might think the money paid on salaries has become a millstone around the neck of some clubs including man united and even chelse are relying on youth It is the ideal time for a team with a good set up to get to the top and liverpool have a very good set up of course time will tell if nesv are oly blowing hot air. I don't understand the pessimism sorry
