What you are saying about Jarvis and why has'nt he signed for a top Club did'nt the same apply exactly to Adam Jognson while he was at Boro? and look at him now, whats wrong with taking a chance now on him rather than wait and end up paying millions of pounds more if he does indeed reach his potential.
Just like there was nothing wrong with taking a chance on Lucas, Babel, N'Gog, Alonso, Mascherano, Johnson, Jovanovic, Dossena, Aquilani, and Reina right? The people you take chances on don't always turn out to be good; you've not learned this by now? Right now LFC needs people of proven quality, even if that means spending more cash and only having them for 3 or 4 seasons while we flesh out the squad based on the results they provide. We're trundling along well below expectation, but you want us to buy more average players or continue to take chances the way we have been since H&G took over? Which side of the player transfer argument argument are you actually on?
whilst i agree with you. It is not an either or situation. we need more strikers as well as better providers. Your best point was that the number of 'make do' signings is costing the club dear(Soto,Poulson,Ngog,Jovanovic,Maxi,Aurelio). Too many are in the first team and that is unacceptable, I feel at least 5 players are needed in the positions you mentioned to create enough quality competition. Torres expecially needs someone on his shoulder.
Torres doesn't need anyone on his shoulder for Spain, does he? He certainly needs players around him pulling off defenders and giving him good ball, but I think you'll find that is known as "football tactics" more than "need to play 4-4-2".
You are certainly correct that we have a lot of "filler" throughout the squad, and in time we will need to replace them with better quality. Perhaps this blinds people to what we need, so adamant in their opinions that any single player is the root cause of our problems, be that Lucas, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Torres... The list goes on. But they do the job for the most part, so we should rather concentrate on where our true weaknesses lie - width, left back - before we decide who we can do without. These positions are necessary no matter what formation or brand of football you intend to play, provided you intend to actually go out and win games, not that our manager seems to want to do that. Hoofball to Carlton Cole is much more likely to get us relegated than putting serious effort into signing a quality wing and instilling a winning attitude in the squad; if we need to replace the manager to achieve the latter, then I'd rather see us do it now rather than when it becomes to late to guarantee European competition for next season.
(Aside: Don't get me wrong, I'm not unhappy that Konchesky is our choice left back just because it's him; I'm unhappy that he's all we've got, and he's a squad player at best.)
If we have the investment to fill wing, left back, and second wide player, then we can start talking about another striker, a better DM, more quality at CB etc. But until then the "need another striker now" point of view is wrong.
