Sorry mate gonna call you out on this one. Reading reached the FA Cup quarter final, you may recall, so they were far from such a poor standard in the Cup ties. Players from Northampton don't even know about the competition, except that it's on the telly.

And, Reclaim, we drew with Birmingham away last season. No away team came away with more points than us from that tie within months to either side of that game. You might argue that Roy got the same result there, but there was a giant gulf in the quality of our football between the two games, and not in Roy's favour.

I don't seem to see you referring to how we thrashed Sunderland 3-0 at Anfield last season, but under Roy we struggled to hold them to 2-2. Drew with Man City away last season, lost 3-0 at Eastlands this. OUTPLAYED BY BLACKPOOL AT HOME. You can't compare the records of these two managers and somehow conclude that Roy is the better manager, mate. Rafa had 6 seasons with the club, so it will be easy to find the odd bad game - Roy's had 10 games and we were shiite in 7 of them (Arsenal, Blackburn we played well, one might argue for Bolton, the rest were awful).

Bottom of the championship is still two leagues higher than Northampton, mate. and as for your "so what?" how many teams make the FA quarter final each year? i didn't call them the "giants of english football", i was merely pointing out that they played well enough in the cup games last season to see off no few challengers - a competition where of the top sides not only Liverpool failed to impress last season. you can't hang a manager for losing at home only once in the EPL (and against the champions no less) during the latter half of the season (with only one other home game drawn), for winning every Europa Cup home game (we reached the semi-final remember), but having the misfortune of playing badly in the FA Cup against a more determined side who would go on to do well in the competition.

oh, and at least Reading had the balls to sack their manager when they hit the bottom, and look at how they immediately improved (unlike LFC under Roy, for instance, who immediately sent us towards the bottom rather than away from it).

But not Northampton? At first I was trying to understand your point, but now I've realized you don't have one because in fact your argument is baseless.

Here are the teams to back up your point.

Liverpool v Reading F.A.Cup: Cavalieri, Degen, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Lucas, Aquilani, Kuyt, Gerrard, Benayoun, Torres.

Liverpool v Northampton Carling Cup:Jones, Kelly, Wilson, Kyrgiakos, Agger, Lucas, Spearing, Jovanovic, Babel, Pacheco, Ngog.

Think this backs up yours and Fazakerley's point about which was the most shameful defeat, it's clearly the Reading game when you look at the amount of first team senior players are playing.
