He did have appearences fees in the deal. So it's installments depending on appearences. Not rocket science is it.

Been told by a friend of mine who's well informed that where due to pay 8million if he plays so many games for us this season, hence why he was loaned out, makes financial sense, get him out on loan, sell him for 13 mill at the end of the season maybe more with the way he's playing now

You've looked at other managers, right? You've compared their good buys with their bad, right? From this you've learned that every single manager has bought lemons in his time, right? You've understood that a manager with a sell-to-buy transfer budget cannot add depth to his squad without being forced to buy average players who might not actually cut it, right?

No you fcking haven't, have you?

Sorry but this is pointless. You never look back, only forward. Raffa done as good as he could when he was here. We need to look to another manager to take us forward, hopefully one that isn't afraid to attack.

Supporters with that point of view are not particularly good supporters, are they? They don't consider that the manager has to get the funding to buy players from somewhere. When you have a decent amount of money added to your transfer budget each window, net spend is indeed irrelevant. But when the owners of the club are not investing in the squad, then net spend is critical.

You can't buy anything in the football world without money, and that stuff doesn't grow on trees; you must not have studied economics. A manager without financial backing can't realistically aim at expensive (and therefore top-drawer) players, because he would have to sell half his squad to even compete in the market. Instead he has to take chances on younger or promising players (perhaps mainly from other leagues where you have a better chance of signing them), and if he buys rubbish (inevitable) then he must try to recoup as much as possible from the sale of those players so that he can try again.

Guy, you (and emp and the other Rafa-haters) need to start looking at the whole picture.

As for this thread, well, Rafa is gone and for good reason. So there's no point begging for his return. If he does ever have the opportunity to return it will hopefully not be with this squad (who he ultimately failed and will therefore struggle to perform for) but it will hopefully be with owners who will support him.

The talk about net spend wasn't invented to annoy traditionalists like yourself it was introduced to placate footclub owners who are often and usually business men who don't understand football. If you want to cry about net spend complain against all the clubs that backed the premiership (I think liverpool was one) But don't blame benite z for that
There is no such thing as NET spent from a supporters point of view, as supporters the only thing we judge is what the Club paid for a player and if that player is worth the money when we see him on the pitch, as supporters we are not bothered whats at the bottom of a balance sheet, thats for Chairmen, Shareholders and direcors. A manager is always judged on his spending not what he gets back in, it's all about his judgement on a player and if he is worth the money he has asked the Club for in order to get him. Robbie Keane will always be seen as an expensive flop for instance because he was not worth what we paid for him, similar to Veron and United and Crespoe and Shevchenko at Chelsea, this is what managers get judged on as well as results, no such thing as NET spent am afraid, was'nt mentioned years ago and should'nt be mentioned now.

Rubbish, there isn't a manager in the world who can take a good squad to a great squad without investment. And honest to god I cannot understand you throwing sentences about like no such thing as net spend??? Are you crazy? There is, look it up if you don't know what it is.

You are missing the point here,he was the best he could get for the initial outlay (£5m)&Jovetic was also on the radar(£12m)but the board pulled the plug so where did the Alonso money go even after he was promised it?And Dossena made 60 000 mancs disappear with a flick of his left boot so good enough for me.
