Fair enough swede, he did get the dossena one wrong but he was quick enough to get rid of keane back to spurs for 15 million, bit we never saw that money again.

I stand corrected on what I said before,

2008/2009 sold keane to make it a net spend of 2.5 for that season

2009/2010 net spend of £10,000. Sell to buy

2010/2011 no net spend again.

It's the constant selling to buy that's screwed us the last 3 years, we needed to add what we've got/had

Where has this NET spent thing come from, just that I have never heard of it before this monster Benitez arrived, never heard it during Sir Bob, Joe Fagin, Dalglish, Souey, Roy Evans or even Gerard Houllier reign's as manager. So according to you and this net spent lark, Kenny Dalglish was'nt really Liverpool's record signing back in 77 because he cost minus 60 grand because we sold Kevin Keegan about a month before for 500k and the same goes for John Aldridge, John Barnes and Peter Beardsley who all cost nothing at all because we received 3.2 million for Rushie from Juventus.

Before 2007 the club was a ' family club' This changed in 2007 the club was sold to 'outsiders' . The club had to justify its spending, Nobody is really happy with that but the game has moved on. In order to attract top players we have to pay ludicrous salaries. The talk about net spend wasn't invented to annoy traditionalists like yourself it was introduced to placate footclub owners who are often and usually business men who don't understand football. If you want to cry about net spend complain against all the clubs that backed the premiership (I think liverpool was one) But don't blame benite z for that

I wud take him back in a second. He's a top class manager, as his record proves, he spent the last year at the club fighting with his bosses - summer of 2009 we all know that a trick was missed after we finished second, the money should have been made available and the trust put in rafa to go out and add to that squad with two or three big big players - the league was there for the taking. A 40m investment then could have got us the title and put us back at the top of the tree - instead we are were we are now, useless manager and at least 100m needed to get us even challenging again!!

Just be great to have the guy back, give him the money at xmas and see what he can do without the owners and MD fukking him at every opportunity.

There is no such thing as NET spent from a supporters point of view, as supporters the only thing we judge is what the Club paid for a player and if that player is worth the money when we see him on the pitch, as supporters we are not bothered whats at the bottom of a balance sheet, thats for Chairmen, Shareholders and direcors. A manager is always judged on his spending not what he gets back in, it's all about his judgement on a player and if he is worth the money he has asked the Club for in order to get him. Robbie Keane will always be seen as an expensive flop for instance because he was not worth what we paid for him, similar to Veron and United and Crespoe and Shevchenko at Chelsea, this is what managers get judged on as well as results, no such thing as NET spent am afraid, was'nt mentioned years ago and should'nt be mentioned now.

Of course it fckin matters. Look at how much city have spent since there owners have come in. Instead of buying to sell, they added quality to the squad. Then the next window, they got rid of a few not good enough and splashed the cash on better quality ones.

When we finished 2nd, we shouldn't of sold alonso, and arbeloa. We should of been adding to a squad that was two or three short of player that would of won us the league with that extra quality. But no instead of getting rid of degan and bringing in Johnson we sold arbeloa, instead of adding aquilani to the squad, we had to sell alonso. We brought in aquilani for 5 million (and don't start with this 20mill [oops], check it up, Roma actually released that in there statement) and the rest was installments ( a reason why I think he was shipped out on loan to prevent us paying out on appearences fees) we spent 18 mill on Johnson knowing that Portsmouth still owed us 9million for crouch. That'd a total of 24.5
including the Greek. Where did the rest go? The 14 million we should have left over, even more when you add 15million to it we recieved back off spurs for keane.

That's 24 million that went to paying fees off when it should of been invested in the 1st team on a striker we where desperate for
