The one thing you should have just realised in all this is that it has absolutely nothing to do with football anymore, it's all about the money and the franchise. How does him having any ties with United effect him making money for himself out of Liverpool football club which afterall is what it's all about, it's business and football should now be treated like such, Liverpool's chairman is a Chelsea man through and through yet did that stop him doing his job for Liverpool Football Club, No because there is no sentiments in football or Business.
Actually even if he had a chain of Newcastle-themed bars I would still be opposed to the sale to him. There might not be sentiment in business, but there is definitely sentiment in the heart of the buyer that he prefers a certain club over ours, regardless of which club that is. Liverpool still has a lot of fans in the east despite our relatively poor haul of silverware in recent times, so this man Lim could just as easily have a successful chain of Liverpool-themed bars.
But he doesn't.
The same argument cannot be made for Broughton. He has been appointed and given a specific task for which he will be lavishly remunerated. It won't matter to him who he is doing the job for, because that doesn't interfere with his personal preference for a club. However Lim would be investing money rather than just receiving it, and when you would rather give that money to help a different club I expect your loyalties to be divided, and in the long term that will either be bad for our club or bad for his Manchester United bar business. I mean, do you really think the Glazers are going to be happy that the owner of Liverpool FC is making money off United's name in the Far East?
I'm not saying that Lim himself isn't trustworthy, but I do think that selling to him would lead to a conflict of interests at some point, and there is nothing to suggest that Liverpool FC would be anything but the loser there.
