We've trusted him to spend money already tho. And this is how he's spent it:
He signed Meireles, but the way he puts that player on the field makes me wonder why he signed him at all. Roy perhaps considers Raul a bad buy because he's clearly not a very good wing nor does he have a clue what to do in the hole.
He "bought" Cole in order to play in the middle, to feed Torres. Thus far Cole is yet to play in the hole behind Torres.
He "bought" Jovanovic... No wait, Rafa "bought" Jovanovic.
He bought Poulsen because Macherano was almost certainly going to leave. Sorry, but one doesn't find too many 30 million pound replacement players at age 29 struggling to get into a second tier side like Juventus. The best we were going to get there was another Lucas. This signing had 'fail' written all over it from day one.
He bought Konchesky who may actually be a decent squad player signing in a position where we are weak. Sadly he is clearly not capable against a decent wing such as Nani, but you get what you pay for and we didn't pay much.
He bought Wilson who has played ... erm ... how many games?
He "bought" Aurelio who is so badly injured as usual that Roy can't put a time frame on his return.
He allowed Aquilani to go, though perhaps this wasn't his fault. Maybe he's happy about this anyway, because Aquaman is probably a worse wing than Cole or Meireles.
He kept Torres and Gerrard, but I can no longer seeing the former wearing Liverpool red come the end of January. For a guy who's career stats have him scoring near 2 goals every 3 games, to have scored once in 6 or 7 matches is ridiculous, and may be entirely attributed to the fact that we create no chances thanks to playing the worst football in the division. Maybe more telling is that it is Torres getting all the assists - how bad are we going to be when he's gone?
He has promised to play Babel and Pacheco, but Babel doesn't get a chance to show he's a capable striker, and Pacheco isn't even picked against Utrecht. Um, we're weak on the wing and I thought Pacheco was player of the tournament at U19 level in that position. Surely that gives him the right to more than one game, especially since he seemed to impress in the one game he did actually start (Northampton - though obviously he wasn't good enough to win the game by himself).
Roy's been manager for two months now, yet we're still playing like strangers, and only Reina and Skrtel know where they're going to start week in and week out. I don't think you could script a greater shambles!
