Legend, I think the real problem is Roy wasn't a FASHIONABLE choice and I bet the people moaning already are the ones who kicked off and have been waiting for our first defeat with the delight of a scum fan!

I'll start by daying I like Roy. I've got nothing but respect for a man with his huge experience. However, this is an entirely new situation for him. He has come to a club that prides itself on winning trophies and being at the top of the pile. Unfortunately due to the greed of Moores, we are now owned by two feckless imbeciles whose entire remit is to bleed every last penny from the club before casting it aside like an empty crisp packet. Over the last two seasons we have lost many too many players, some very good and some at least useful. We haven't replaced them with anybody worthwhile and the situation is growing worse by the day. On his meagre budget, Roy has brought in Poulsen, Jovanovic, Wilson, Jones and Cole. Out of those only Cole is good enough. We have lost better players than we now have and unless we are really busy in the last week of the window, we are incredibly weak all over the park. I fear for us this year, but Roy is not the man to blame. Not yet anyway.

Oh how different all the threads would now be if we too had the luxury of playing wigan and west brom at the start.
Nothing has changed Kent, the owners are not investing and the manager gets the crap?

Aquilani surely, a player we should not be sending away on loan. Unless Aqua is totally crocked and we're trying to pull a fast one by loaning him out because we know he won't pass the medical that comes with a sale. I'm struggling to see the problem here - we signed an extra two midfielders this season (Paulsen, Cole - 3 if you count Jova) and lost one (Masch), and one is suspended (Cole), so that leaves us with parity at worst. We shouldn't find ourselves so short that we need to start Torres+N'Gog.

Quick question. DID ROY STEP OVER THE LINE LAST NIGHT AND PERFORM LIKE A BUNCH OF SCHOOL KIDS?

Answer NO

Absolutely awful performance by most of the guys on the pitch last night, Kuyt and Jovanavic had no threat at all and along with Agger on the left the defending in particular was terrible.!
Not sure we actually had anybody on the pitch that touched the ball three times without having to try and get it back off an opponent? ball control zero.
UP front we had an half fit Torres and Ngogg who tried his best to dissapear so he didn`t upstage Torres, awful.
Defence, Carra was his normal self, Johnson looked like he was more interested in getting home to blow the candles out on his birthday cake, Skrtl did no more than OK but a stupid tackle gave away the penalty, mind you if Agger and Jova had actually defended properly he wouldn`t have been in that position.!
Pepe is still not looking his normal self to me and I would have expected more from him with the headed goal depite Tevez being in front of him.

So there you have it, yes two tough games to start but we have looked far from impressive at any stage so far. Not too worried yet but we need two good performance next up for confidence.

It looks very worrying that roy couldn't change things for the better tatically. It's early days and I'm sure he can't be judged until we're relegated. Having said that we have now already played the best team in London and now (this shuts the fucck up all manc scum, try it, it works) we've also played the best team in Manchester, away.

What annoys me is that everyone here is on opposite ends of the spectrum. I complete agree that is two of the hardest games of the season out of the way, and if these games wern't right next to each other 1 point from them might not look ever so bad. But equally those dismissing out dismal performance and lack of chance creation all throughout the games we have played so far bar 1 in which we only scored 1 goal is a cause for concern until something shows otherwise. I don't think its the end of the world to get 1 point from these games but equally I don't think such a dismal performance and looking like a mid table team with a number of average players can be taken too lightly. Balance is needed between those two thought processes and no1 seems to be in the middle!

You sound happy with that. We're only a top 6 squad with Torres and Gerrard, and only if they're both fit, and you can bet they only stayed because someone convinced them we'd challenge for more than just a Champions' League place. So who's the fool; us or them?

We come to the first major hurdle and are made to look like amateurs! All the momentum we gained during the break is gone, and we've gotta step lively now with trips to Turkey and back to Manchester on the immediate horizon. How we deal with this as a team will determine our immediate future. Fail too many times because we lack focus or belief or whatever it was that we didn't show last night, and there's no coming back for anyone, 4-4-2 or not.

I do remember Alonso passing up a storm two seasons ago. But I also remember us winning or drawing countless lost games that season. That indomitable spirit is no longer, and this game against City was yet more evidence. Maybe we need a shrink more than a man manager.

And no, emp, I'm not a wafa lover - he needed to go because he was no longer in control, and made a rash of poor decisions on the field. I'm willing to give Roy a chance, as long as he realizes he screwed this one up and has a plan going forward that is different to this failed attempt. I think we all know we're not buying anyone else before the transfer window closes, so this is the hand we've been dealt and we need to make the best of it. But if Gerrard is the only man on the pitch playing with any passion then we're not going to make much impression in any competition. Man management is supposedly Roy's strength, so let's see how nurses us through to January. But regardless of what he says to the players or in the media, we need to play to our strengths on the park, and 4-4-2 is not one of them. Out with the new and in with the old is not an adage too many people have relied upon, so why were we even tempted to try it?
