Sorry he is world class thats why he is in the £30m bracket unlike Robbie Savage. He is also the captain of Argentina again unlike Robbie who has never been captain of Argentina. (I checked on Wikapedia before you ask so I know thats correct)

In that case we got rid of alonso far to cheaply. Mascherano can be replaced with a ball winning centre mid who can pick out passes instead of playing it side to side all the time and can get goals. Mascherano has stamina, speed, good tackling good Reading of the game, that's it. End of

i think the reason savage has not captained Argentina is i think because and i could be wrong about he is NOT Argentinean , and i have never rated mascherano such a limited player to given the tag of world class is just laughable , as i say an Argentine Robbie savage , look at the defensive midfielders we have had from Steve mc mahon to hamann he is not in that class never mind the great souness .

I think you will find that there is a wealth of reasons robbie savage has not captained Argentina, one your right being argentinian, but even if he was, my favourite reason would still come into play, Masc is a top top class player, Savage is not.

masch is very over rated. he's good at what he's doing but do we need a player who offers nothing at all in attack? the answer is no and if we can get £25m for him then im happy. masch a world class player? absolutely not...

The definition of "world class", of or denoting someone with a skill or attribute that puts him or her in the highest class in the world.

Based on that statement Mascherano is world class. based on the info stated in this thread, perhaps the thread should be renamed.

By the way, if his price is not met & he plays for Liverpool this season will he continue to be slagged off like the comments made here?

well if mascherano is world class , what does that make mc mahon, souness and hamann for example because these players were .and please enlighten me why he isn't an argentine robbie savage , robbie savage tackles and breaks up play , he is very very limited as a player , can't really pass the ball ,doesn't score or create goals , does that sound familiar yes mascherano .

Souness and McMahon were more box to box midfielders a more direct comparison would be Gerrard to them. Hamann yes and what a great player he was. A more direct comparison from the 1970 / 80’s era would be Ronnie Whelan. He used to get a lot of stick from within the crowd because he did not catch the eye. However the team used to rate him very highly as much of what he did was unseen to the average joe in the crowd but he used to break up things before they developed. Liverpool back then were always lacking when Whelan was out for that reason. Mascherano is that type of player. I am one who says if he wants to go then let him go but unless we place like for like we will be weaker. I would be happy to give Lucas a go to try and develop in that role posted last week but it was not popular. So if he goes we need another specialist Defensive Mid. For me Mascherano is one of the best in the world at that position whether world class well maybe I have changed my mind that’s an overused phrase for me.

Whelan is not a bad comparison,but i dont see masch pulling this one off.
