It's not a matter of not having the money to keep Arby, it's that he wants out so he doesn't have to be second choice coming into a World Cup year.

We need to improve our squad as much as we can !! Its fantastic to have a great starting eleven but if they get injured and we have no one to replace them with then what is the point. The reason Manure do so well is because they have excellent back up to their starting eleven to come in and fill gaps when injuries occur!
Our starting eleven last season was great and yes we need to improve one or two positions but that's all. I think from their the squad needs more dpeth as back up.

Yes but this isn't an issue of signing squad players, it is an issue of keeping the squad while signing the good players. And trust me, I was around for the Houlier days!

Raf I'm not saying signing Johnson is a bad thing as I think it's great albeit a little expensive and we definately needed improvement there but I would try to hold onto Arbeloa if possible. We have plenty of games to play throughout the season where Abrloa would get game time and if he really thought he was good enough he would fight for his position. There's no way he would be number 1 choice at RB at Madrid?
Oh and BTW I was around for the Houllier days and several days before that too!

See, there's the problem. I don't think the first team needs improvement. It's the squad that needs improving.

And you're not improving the squad by letting him go. But, we really have no choice but to let him go if he wants out.

Understand where you're coming from Raf but do you think any of the youth/reserves are better than Arbeloa as a back up? I suppose we won't really know unless they're given a go! Understand after the season Arbeloa has had he would be fetching almost his maximum value and if he wants to then get the money! Catch 22 i say!! If we had the choice I would still prefer him to stay.

i'd prefer if we kept hold hold of arbeloa but with the player looking like he wants to go and real reported willing to pay around 6 mill for him i think now would be a good time to sell and raise money needed for a quality wide man, which we've missed for some time. i like kuyt and what he lacks in quality he makes up on effort and riera has good feet and decent delivery but lacks pace. someone who can beat a man is what we need for when we cant brake teams down. im guessing thats what babel was bought to do but unfortunately we dont see it often enough. silva would be class!!
