Reading in the newspapers now that Couthino may be going to Spurs on a free just a few years after we got £140m for him.
That money was used to buy Becker and VVD and we all know what happened next. Since then we have had no real marquee signings while our main rivals have spent freely.
Man City overcoming the financial fair play rules was a big blow to the FSG model and they now going to have to change their ways if we are to keep up.
Will be interesting to see now if they can loosen the purse strings in order for us to win some silverware.

It's clear they are not going to loosen anything, we will be allowed to spend money we have left after paying everything including capital investments. The increased seating capacity might help somewhat, but that's about it. FSG just don't have money to spend, I am not even sure why they have not sold the club, except for United there are not a lot of money to be made in football

Not sure who there is left to buy us. All the countries looking to wash their money seem to have already done their business.

We struck lucky getting a huge sale on Coutinho, Barca were stupid enough to pay so much, it was also good management to drive the price up on Barca, we also invested the money well on VvD & Allison.
I was surprised when there were reported bids 2 years ago for around £2 Billion that FSG did not sell, we were on a high having won PL & CL, it wasn't going to get any better than that.
I am not quite sure what FSG are waiting for, as we are declining asset as our top players age, while the payroll is going through the roof to retain aging stars, which will need a large investment to replace, on top of that the manager behind it all is likely to leave in 3 years.
Add to that we now have Newcastle who are likely to try and repeat Man City's success by spending big, so a few big clubs will miss top 4/CL going forward, this is why FSG wanted to be in the Super League to guarantee qualification/income, as FFP is now dead.

FSG have probably made losses but were they to sell they would probably quadruple their investment. Vish is correct it’s correct term is unrealised profit e.g profit they could make but haven’t a bit like when your house goes up in price
Given they have already arrived at that position like vish I can’t understand why they are holding onto the club?
One thing for sure I wish they would go and go quickly

I've made a thread a while ago about this, we should all go and give Barcelona board a guard of honor because that was the heist of the century in clear day light. Without that money, no Becker no Vvd and no trophies. The evidence is clear, these owners won't spend unless they sell a big player on a huge profit. I wouldn't be surprised if they accept an offer for Salah as soon as Madrid or Psg make an offer.

One thing for sure I wish they would go and go quickly The only 2 things I can think of is that LFC is probably a huge asset on their Balance Sheet allowing them to be able to raise funds cheaply, debt is almost free these days. The other thing being the pre-finance cost and tax profits Man U does (EBIT), it was big, they think they can bring our EBIT to comparable levels by increasing the stadium capacity and commercial rights. Let's us not forget, these people don't need money, they have enough to live well, they need assets that can generate cash in the future, and in sports, that's quite rare.
