Just reading that Manchester United have been awarded/given 41 penalties since OGS took charge. In contrast, we've been awarded 46 penalties in all the time that Klopp has been with us.
Explain.
'I was only in the game for the love of football - and I wanted to bring back happiness to the people of Liverpool.' Bill Shankly
'We should have made a signing or two in the last couple of transfer windows.' Vish

VAR, slow motion videos, its like seeing something with a telescope of course you will see something that the naked eye missed. Also penalties have been handed out like candy lately.
I was always against var and was slaughtered for it, yes there were mistakes but the pure emotion and the drama that unfolded is all gone out of the game with the introduction of it

Against Wolves, without VAR, Coady would have obtained a penalty, remember, so I am all for VAR which definitely reduced errors, but did not eliminate them as that's impossible, but the offside way of deciding, should be reviewed IMO. Coming back to the question, I think there are 2 reasons, Bruno Fernandes is very cunning in getting penalties and secondly, United play a lot on counters, so difficult to defend as there is a lot of space, while we allow all defenders to get organised, so they don't have to foul. Against Newcastle, Mane should have obtained one but he stayed on his feet when grabbed by Darlow

I find it really frustrating, players winning easy penalties are warping scorelines so much.
Players are going down at any opportunity because the reward of a penalty is so great and so frequent. I don't necessarily blame the players, I think the refs to completely give in to players going down after getting a tap on the shoulder.
It's just crap for a spectator to watch a really good tight game go down to the wire only for someone to feel a touch on the edge of the box with their back to goal with absolutely no chance of scoring and turn that situation into a penalty.
I get the feeling that I look at sky sports and almost expect united to win by a single goal because of a penalty in the last 10 mins of a game.

Yes I agree some things have worked and I am for VAR but loosing patience quickly with how it's being used The point you highlight with Coady is correct. I am more just trying to refer to that not all contact is an automatic penalty. 60% of the pens I see given these days I wouldn't even consider a foul if it was anywhere else on the pitch, the reward for going down in the box is too great. A lot of matches now boil down to who can initiate the most minuscule of contacts in the box and go down like a sack of spuds. I guess what I'm saying is I'd rather see the bar for penalties being given a bit higher than what it is now.

I was surprised there was not a VAR for the game against Newcastle where Mane was going for the free ball that was close to the goal line and the keeper appeared to have his hands around Mane's legs, so the defender got in ahead of Mane to clear from the line, TBF Mane stayed on his feet and we hardly appealed, but I was expecting a review after the ball went out, but it was not mentioned again?
I do think sometimes we miss a trick where our players do not seem to appeal as much as the likes of UTD players, maybe that's something Klopp has instructed them to do? I guess this links into the comments made against Salah, where he is a cheat/diver if he gets slight contact and go's down, but Harry Kane is a 'Great striker, winning the pen' if he does the same according to the media.

This is what is really doing my head in about VAR. We seem to have had the most innocuous of penalty decisions given against us this season which are checked for 5 minutes to 'find' infringements but then when its one of our players it seems like there is a tumbleweed moving through the VAR truck. I don't see much difference between Pogbas pen and Mane being clipped in the box last night or the keeper holding onto Manes leg.... I don't think either are penalties by the way but we just don't seem to be getting anything this season at all. On a side note the officiating last night was absolutely awful. The foul for their free kick looked so soft and I didn't see a replay of it anywhere? Whereas the bar for the ref giving us anything last night seems to be a lot higher than for Southampton. I honestly don't know what fouls and penalties are anymore. I feel like the prem is turning into La Liga where any kind of touch is met with the ref blowing the whistle.

I agree, it is difficult to watch a game now and predict what is a foul/penalty or not, at some points last night it was like Mane was being picked up and dropped to the floor by defenders!!! at one point Mane got so annoyed he got up and flew into the opponent who had the ball after the ref did not give a foul, made me laugh, but I was thinking wouldn't surprise me if he got red now !!! We can all argue what a foul is or is not now under the rules, but those rules should apply to both sides, as you say, I get the feeling VAR against us is being used to analyse for anything they can find, whereas any fouls in our favour are getting a very brief review, if reviewed at all. We were rubbish last night, particularly in the first half, so this is not an excuse for the result last night.

I thought Mane was brought down in the game
