I know a few City fans, as I live and work in Manchester, one of them really hates that Abu Dhabi bought them, as it tarnished City's good reputation, he hates UTD fans can now say you bought the league (what City used to say to UTD) and the club are owned by some dodgy regime which is sportswashing using his club.
More money does not mean better, the clubs reputation is important for the community, so yes, answer to the original question, it was a blessing we were not bought by Abu Dhabi and used for sportswashing, I had the same concerns when we were linked to Chinese buyers a few years ago who were linked to the Chinese leaders, there is a reason these regimes want to buy these popular football clubs, it's not too make money!!!!
Would you say the majority are like him? Those I see on tv and read on forums dont seem to be like that at all, they look very please to go from relegation fodder to Champions looking to dominate the EPL. Yes, one could say City bought the league, but this is what Chelsea did before them and before that it was United as they had more money than anybody else and by far. Dont you think Real Madrid and Barca buy trophies as well by the same token and they are considered the biggest clubs in the world? What about Bayern Munich, they buy all the better players of the German league, what's the difference? We became contenders after buying Alisson and Van Dijk at record fees then, were you unhappy that we spent that kind of money, is that not unfair compared to Leicester who won the league on a shoestring?

No, the majority of City fan's aren't like the guy I know, he's old school and went on the Kippax in the 70's, so he has fond memories of that, he is really annoyed at the sports washing they are using the club for. I know a few other fans who are happy with watching the world stars, City have also took on allot of new fans with their success, who when growing up would have chosen a Utd, Liverpool or Chelsea etc, but follow City with their success. I'd say the difference is we have bought the likes of VvD & Alisson based on business, by income & selling the likes of Coutinho, you look at our transfer spending between us & City and it is a different world, as we have been balancing the books over the years pretty much compared to City. I also do not like how City are being used to Sports wash a dodgy regime, I would not like Liverpool being used in a similar manner, Newcastle fans are debating a similar thing with their imminent takeover. At the end of the day, everyone knows City have been cooking the books, that's why they are on a FFP charge and could be banned from the CL, so that is breaking the rules of the competition, so is cheating. Andy City's appeal is set for June: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52685442Should be interesting in the current climate.

I am convinced that the majority of LFC fans would have been happy as well. City owners are at least making a big effort to make sure their club is successful while our owners are managing profits and their value. At least when the City fans are buying a shirt they know their owners are also spending their money unlike ours

That’s because our owners don’t have the same level of money to burn. It’s pretty easy to grasp that one isn’t it?

I am sure allot of Liverpool fans (probably not the majority) would be concerned if we were bought by a country and used for sports washing, whatever money they spent and trophies they delivered. Abu Dhabi are spending their money to clean up their reputation, there is no love for Manchester City, the amount they have spent on City is a good investment for all the publicity and branding they receive globally. As has been said, FSG run Liverpool as a business, which is how it should be done, they have delivered success without breaking the spending rules and have improved Liverpool FC business to help deliver success.

It’s all to easy to overlook that for a few trophies and some over paid mercenaries.

For sure not the same level but our owners are making Liverpool are not even spending what the club is generating. That's also easy to grasp for people who know how to read financial statements.

What bad publicity Abu Dhabi has, the only one I've seen is in the Dubai royal family? I rather think that for them as well it is a long term investment, their funds will dry up as fossil fuel dries up or become cheaper. Look what Chelaea was generating before Abramovic and now, look at the valuation of the club then and now, look at the global fan base and shirt sale then and now? Why do you think so many Americans have invested in the EPL, it is to make money, some look at it long term while others want their returns quickly especially if it is a leveraged but out like the United owners, they are the worst.
