And how do you sort out who is where? Voiding the season after so much of it has finished isn’t an option as isn’t fair on enough teams to be viable.

I agree, there is no certainty, but UEFA have decided to put a line in the sand in effect, by the looks of it, they are saying to the leagues that they must be completed by 3rd August, whatever they do, whether it is behind closed doors/awarding positions as they stand/playing some sort of tournament like play offs etc, they want the leagues completed this season by then, so they can start the new leagues for 2020-2021, followed by the Euros, that's how it appears.

The next PL meeting will be interesting, as they will have to react to UEFA's decision, this is driven by money from TV and sponsors, if the leagues are completed, the TV companies and sponsors cannot complain as the leagues have completed their contractual obligation I guess, then they start afresh for 2020-2021 league as normal (if the virus has gone).

It’s a pointless line without knowing for sure when we can start again. If we can’t start playing again until September, October or later for example then you’ve potentially got two seasons ruined. This is all about money and greed and not what’s best for the game.

It does seem a pointless line when different Countries are at different stages with the virus. UEFA are also clearly over stepping their boundaries even if the language they're using is suggestion. They could have teleconferenced with the various Associations instead of releasing a press statement...it comes across as bullying.

I agree.
It's not much different to the leagues below National League level being scrapped for the season. These are actions or suggestions that are designed to test the water, gain momentum or
support, or as you imply, to bully others into falling into place for their needs.

Smaller?
They have somewhere in the region of 40k people a day to contend with over a site much bigger than a football stadium. Easier to handle maybe because of the type of people who go there and that's not just well to do people. They cannot play behind closed doors as that would still mean 3k to 4k people on site. Players, coaches, officials, groundstaff, ball boys, umpires, line judges, tv crews, canteen staff. It all adds up. The event is outdoors and reliant on the weather and daylight so cannot be moved easily either. Even by a couple of weeks.

Football time frame is different. We can play in all weathers, behind closed doors if necessary.

UEFA will only do what is in their interest which will usually be due to some sort of financial/power benefit.

It's the same as with the European Super League, they want it, nobody else does, so they will push it as much as possible.

Similar story with the Nations League (which I think has been good actually). They want more power/more money.

Again the same with FIFA pushing the club world cup.

Also why can't games be played behind closed doors if possible? It's not ideal by any means but by heck I would rather than than no title.

Smaller as in some PL games can have 50,000+ people, combined average that could be 500,000 fans a weekend at PL games only.

PL Football also has similar associated people on matchday in attendance - Stewards/TV Crews/Officials/Caterers/Police/Medical/Club Staff etc, so if Wimbledon cannot hand this in July for a 3 week tournament, how can football do it for 6 weeks?

I guess the fear is fans will still gather around the stadium areas, even behind closed doors, one idea I heard the other day was to play the games in Qatar, at least the fans can't travel there !

Because it is over many different smaller sites. Wimbledon you are talking about one venue for 14 days. Each PL ground would be used 5 times maximum. Yes some are bigger than Wimbledon but many are much smaller. Yes staffing is similar but nowhere near the same amount of people to oversee football behind closed doors compared to tennis bcd.

So why wasn't Wimbledon continued BCD?

Because there would still be hundreds of people involved to put it on and it falls under the same umbrella as other sports that have been cancelled. For example horse racing is all off and your average midweek racing at Southwell or Ffos Las doesn't attract many people at all. The idea is to limit as many people as possible to travelling around and passing this deadly virus around. They took an early decision and next year when the tournament is back it will be like it never went away and the clamour for tickets will be as big as ever.

Also the costs to stage it could not be met without paying public. The event is now one of two top sporting events (along with World Snooker) the BBC has in its portfolio apart from the Olympics which is every 4 years. Wimbledon needs 40k people and the concessions every day for 2 weeks to pay the prize money. Football as we already know can actually exist without the huge ticket price. Look at the Bundesliga. £15 to watch top flight games and they don't have the TV revenue we have here.

The fact that we can't even get started in early May now is a warning to other sports and Wimbledon have taken the correct decision to postpone the event this year.
