What have you beem smoking Stan? smile

This side is good but i wouldn't put it in the bracket of the 87/88 team or Pasley's teams just yet.

Those previous sides were more balanced with quality throughout the team. The current team is heavily reliant on the front three and Van Dijk. Yes, there is emerging talent elsewhere but the midfield isn't great (even though it does the job it seems) the GK situation has been shaky, TAA still has question marks in some etc.

Last season we lost quite a few games in the CL group stages. we rode our luck to get to the final. In the league, we dropped quiet a few points in big games.

So I suggest our current style of play might be as enetertaining as that of those previous sides, but I don't think we can say that this is side is as great as those just yet.

Yes you are probably right I might have got a bit carried away. But we are not far away how great would it be if we had a young Gerrard in thIs team? Once Allison is back the goalkeeping situation will be ok grobbelar was hardly rock solid. But yes the central mid is a vulnerability compared to those sides I agree with that. Pity Keita never turned out for his billing

This is a bloody good team. No question. The shift in mentality is the biggest thing that gets me though.

In 08-09 and 13-14, we had great teams: talented, exciting, clinical, up for the big occasion. There's just an edge to these boys I've never seen in a Liverpool side. They're ruthless. I think they can do it this year. I really do.

Only if our main players stay injury free, ie, Salah, Mane, Firmino, VVD and even Alisson needs to get back very soon. We are more comfortable in the midfield

We'll see. I have a good feeling about this. I have zero worry when I watch this team now.

I agree, looks like a 2 horse race, I think Tottenham are our nearest rivals, but seems they have serious unrest and likelihood of players like Eriksen leaving/wanting out and being unhappy, was a strange post match interview with Poch.

We and City look capable of beating every other team, same as last season, so it will be tight, I think injuries will have a big impact, they look really reliant on Aguero for goals, so losing him would be huge for them, similar for us with VvD and the fullbacks.

Jesus can do a job there, he is a regular goal scorer, I think he gets in the Brazil team ahead of Firmino. And yes, injuries will impact, particularly us in front and VVD, because we have a thinner squad.

Jesus can do a job, but he in no Aguero, Aguero get's so many vital goals for City, look at his goals yesterday, right place at the right time, he would be a major loss for them.

Firmino is a much better all round player than Jesus for me, but I think Jesus has more pace, so probably suits Brazil style better.

I dont think any other liverpool team have ever won 97 points and lost only the one game. In any other era, Liverpool would have won the league and absolutely left every other Liverpool past team in the dust. Like I said. It is only Saudi FC that stand in our way. If they werent a reality there would be no question that this Liverpool team would be considered the best ever stats and points alone.

One season doesn't define a team, consistency does. How can you compare one season with a team that has dominated the league for a number of years?

Because no other Liverpool team got 97 points and lost only one game in the prem all season whilst also winning the champions league after coming back from 3-0 down against a team with the best player in history in it. With two of our best players also out. That’s why. No other team in our history have managed to get that many points. It’s simple statistics. Pep said that he was up against the greatest Liverpool team ever, and he was right. As much as we idolise and worship the great Liverpool teams of the past, if they played against this Liverpool team, even in their prime, they’d get spanked 5-0.

We had to rely on a mistake by Lloris,a header by Origi against Newcastle and a brilliant goal by Salah against Southampton.

Not to mention a Daniel Sturridge fantastic goal against Chelsea.
Pickfords mistake at Everton?

That would have been 11 points dropped quite easily.
