I think Stan has a great point...Sturridge is an awful advert for Kids. He is a representative of LFC and his huge wages in part are paid by fans and the way he dresses and behaves does have an effect on kids who look up to players.
If I had a kid of an age where they chose to dress like the gangsta rap culture, I would quickly nip it in the bud. It is not very professional to be walking around with your kecks hanging off your ar*e and the other garb of hoodies etc... To be looking like one is in itself condoning it. I am old enough to remember how Gangsta Rap culture came about and how it is still to this day followed amongst criminal gangs in America and in the UK.
When have Sturridge's pants been falling down? And what's wrong with a hoodie? Everyone wears them. The club sells them. But if a black man wears one in public, he's a thug and a criminal. That's racist bullcrap.
I grew up in Macon, GA a stonghold of the Kryps and bloods, and one of the most dangerous cities in America. Working at a City pool, I got threatened and had a gun pulled on me when I was working at a city pool, because I was the lifeguard and I was white. I have experienced real thug culture first hand, and I can tell you Sturridge wearing a gold chain or a grill at a rap concert isn't promoting criminality. The only thing he was promoting was his friend's music.
Sturridge is an outspoken christian who has never been seen out on the lash, never been disciplined by the club for any wrongdoing, never gotten in trouble. He's a model citizen.
Gerrard, our captain and legend has been arrested for getting in a bar brawl. Nothing like that has ever happened to Sturridge. Has anyone ever accused Gerrard of being a bad example?
