Here rednecks is a derogatory term to refer to backwoods poor white trash people who wear camouflage, own too many guns, drive obnoxiously large trucks make moonshine, pretend that the south will rise again and secede, wear confederate flags, and are generally uneducated. Many of those things don't match up to my experience living in the UK, though I can say I have never been to Norfolk.
It's mostly an American South thing, although they exist in other rural parts of the country.
Heard of the bluenoses calling us bin dippers or red sh!te, but rednecks is new to me.
