We've also lost Can now who was a good emergency option at CB, seems silly to let Klavan leave ATM with Lovren abit of an unknown and Matip always injured, that leaves us VvD & Gomes, Gomes form/injury's aren't exactly great, relatively speaking, I can't see Klavan being on huge wages, so we can't be saving that much getting rid of him.
Hopefully we will have about 70 games this season, we need decent cover at CB.

If we didn't know Lovren was carrying an injury before the window shut, then Lovren is to blame for not informing the club so they could act on the market and sign one more top class cb. Which we should have done regardless because Lovren is really not good enogh to be a starter.
If we knew Lovren was carrying an injury I can't understand why we didn't sign a top class cb. Now we are really short of options - even more so if we let Klavan leave.
But we also have Fabinho who can fill in at cb, just as Can used to do. Not ideal, but an option nvertheless.

I'm guessing Klopp is planning to bring Nat Phillips into the squad, he had a good pre-season, he's 21 so should be ready.
Good luck to Klavan in Italy.

Yes, but if we want to challenge for the title it might not be a bad idea to have players ready for that task.
Blooding young players in is perfect, but maybe not in the CL and PL. We have the domestic cups for that purpose.
We are short of one top class cb.
But good luck to Ragnar. He gave his all and was a good stop gap solution for us. Now we ship him out before having a replacement lined up first, which is bad. Hope this doesn't come back and bite us in the *ss!
God forbid VvD picks up an injury now! He better stay healthy for all games this season!

Also why didn't we sign a central defender if we knew Lovern was carrying a longterm injury? And now apparently planning to sell off a senior backup central defender...Irresponsible is too weak a term for this situation. Bit Lovren has been a bit of a liability lately. Klopp said that Fabinho can play in central defence if required.

Matip played again on Wednesday's friendly, and is fit again. Lovren is in training now. We have Gomez and Nat Phillips. Not really worried.

Haha!
Who are you kidding?
It is obvious that we currently have only 1 top class cb at the club, and VVD is his name.
If he gets injured we're screwed as far as our defensive setup is concerned.
But we are not only 1 top class cb short, we actually have just 1 more fit cb available that has had a full pre season and is ready for a title challenge - if we accept that he is totally inexperienced in the cb position at this level. Joe Gomez is his name.
As far as the others are concerned, we have Matip who is a walking sick note of Sturridge proportions. Can we count on him? Not at all!
Then we have Mr Braincell Lovren. Injured and might be recovering. But is he our future if we want to aim for silverware? Not from what we have seen so far.
Then we have Fabinho, who probably can slot in and do a job for us. But he has no previous experience from playing as a cb. He used to be a rb, which is something totally different.
Moving on to our future players Masterson and Phillips, who might be on course for a domestic cup appearance here and there this season. But are they ready for the big stage right now? Surely not!
So all in all - what we have is 1 top class cb, and the rest are good (future) players, but this is not enough for a club trying to close the gap to clubs like Man C, Real Madrid and Barcelona!
We will have to accept that this might be our weakest link this season, and also hope for speedy recovery for Lovren and Matip. Oh and also that VVD stays fit for the whole season!
I certainly hope to be proven wrong, but can't believe we have managed to get into this situation - all by ourselves.

32 years old £60k a week and somewhat of a liability towards the end of last season. Getting £2m in and saving £3m a year on wages is a no brainer. Good luck to him in Italy.
Gomez is going to be a very good CB. There are not many his age playing this position. He has the advantage of playing with VVD in front of a decent keeper. With a defensive midfielder in front of him he should be well protected whilst he gains experience.

I think Klopp has Fabinho in mind for center half. Would be a waste of his talent I reckon because he is so good at carrying and shielding the ball and scoring goals. Shame to stick him at the back. I reckon he would be a awesome in front of the back 4.

Klavan is a solid experienced cb, he has no speed of course but he is very good, he may of had a couple games where he was shaky against speedy players but his quality no matter how low it is we will need bodies so keeping him is a must for me, we can sign a cb in January until then he is vital to this squad imo.
