For me the burka is demeaning to women. In this day and age of trying to get sexual equality this is a massive slap in the face to that. I know anyone who wears them will say it’s bychoice but what would happen if they chose not to? They are also a massive security risk as anyone could be under the hood. Wasn’t it reported that Bin Laden used to wear one to move around undetected?

Granted Johnson is taking some flack on this one but he has horrendous previous form.

Bank robbers wear motor cycle helmets to rob banks, should we ban them?
House thieves wear hoodies when breaking and entering should we ban them?

Plenty of Muslim women don't wear niqabs, surely they have made a choice not to wear them.

Because we don't like something doesn't mean it is wrong.

In my country helmets are banned when you enter any building, so yes you can ban them in banks. The niqabs are definite security risks and should be banned. It is wrong at least for security reasons.

For me it’s a security thing as much as anything. Anyone can wear one and hide and they know they’ll not be bothered. But you’re on iffy ground if you start banning them as it’s a religious thing and you have to apply the same rules to all and not just some Muslims.

Well that's the thing, if niqabs are banned then what's next? Is that also a denial of religious freedoms

I think that would be a legal minefield.

I would imagine a lot more crimes have been committed by people in motor cycles helmets and hoodies than by people in niqabs.

Why? It's been done in a number of European countries and it's not religious but a tradition. In the Islamic religion women are supposed to hide their hairs (apparently men get get excited when they see hairs) not their face.

Some women wear it for religious reasons, some women wear it for cultural reasons. But don't take my word for it.

Again how is it offending people and how is it harming other people? Just for the record I don't agree with it but if it is a matter of choice then that is up to the individual.

As I stated earlier should we also ban hoodies and motorcycle helmets here also.

if you walked into a bank petrol station or local shop wearing a full face helmet you would be told to take it off at least here in the UK. Not sure how many ladies stroll the streets of Derry wearing Burkas no doubt Shaggy can advise or if that is to difficult send a link and we can see what someone else thinks. As for the Niquab I think it looks quite nice its covering the face and body I have an issue with. And despite what they say the girls I am sure have very little say in the matter

I think you have to be sensible and if you’ve good reason to ask it be removed then it should be (security checks etc). I wouldn’t be comfortable getting on a plane with someone wearing one and would definately ask if they’d been checked without it.

Like vish says, full face helmets aren’t allowed in shops, banks and petrol stations over here too so in effect they have banned them for security reasons in certain situations. Again it’s about being sensible.

So what happens if you have a full beard and Denis Healey eyebrows?

That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

It's a little different from only being able to see someone's eyes isn't it?
