L iverpool striker Daniel Sturridge set to stay for another seasonReds boss Jurgen Klopp believes 'the future is bright' for striker. By James Pearce  Daniel Sturridge is set to stay at Liverpool this season with Jurgen Klopp prepared to run the risk of losing the striker on a free transfer next summer. The England frontman had looked destined to leave Anfield after an injury-plagued loan spell at relegated West Brom. However, Liverpool are now ready to rebuff any interest from rival clubs and retain his services for the final year of his £120,000 per week contract. Sturridge has worked tirelessly to regain fitness and has impressed Klopp with his attitude and application in pre-season. The 28-year-old, who has scored 63 goals in 133 games for the Reds since his £12million move from Chelsea in 2013, has delivered a number of eye-catching performances in the friendly matches with Klopp using him in a slightly deeper role at times. “Who doubts Daniel Sturridge when he is fit? I don’t,” Klopp said after Sunday’s defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Charlotte. He is an outstanding player when he is fit. The future is bright. “He is still young enough. It is not as if he is 30-something. He is experienced. He knows he wouldn't get anywhere near the 120k a week he is on at the moment with us at anywhere else, so he is mopping up the last crumbs that he can. I'll be glad to see the back of him next year!

Abit harsh calling him lazy, I'm sure he's as frustrated as us with being injured, so not really his fault, it must take allot of will power for him to come back so many times, whatever he's paid, he could walk away now and retire for life.
He must play with real fear to open himself up and run etc, in case he gets injured again, it's a shame as he was a tremendous forward for 2 years, still probably our best finisher.
I can't see anyone coming in for him on his wages, so hopefully he can provide cover for the front 3, we can all say what we want about Sturridge, but if we had 15 minutes left in a final and needed a goal who would you bring off the bench.....

If Sturridge gets a game he is likely to be injured for the next ten to twenty games.

Harsh it may be but he is in the way of giving the likes of Brewster, Solanke and Woodburn some much needed playing time.
His last endeavor on loan at West Brom epitomizes what we have had to endure and look forward to until his contract runs out.

The most high-profile signing of Pardew’s one and only transfer window, Sturridge’s time at Albion might have been eye-catching but the results were anything but.
An injury in his third game against Chelsea saw him miss two months and restricted him to less than two hours football.
He was an expensive bystander as Albion were relegated and didn't manage a goal for WBA in his 2 hours playing time!

Exactly. As frustrating as it is, no-one's taking him on those wages so he's here, and if fit, makes for a great super sub. He might suprise us all and stay fit but if he can get through a few games and get us a few extra points, he can provide some sort of back up until next summer and we can upgrade, or see if Brewster/another steps up.

Brewster is not fit until Dec, Woodburn is not a C.F. and Solanke is nowhere near, so I'd rather take a chance with Sturridge, though I would have preferred a replacement.

Strurrage looked lively against Dortmund Unfortunetly we know how the story always ends and so it was for West Brom. But I tend to lean towards what Vish said better a semi fit player with talent than a fit one without talent. Solanke and ings I have not seen anything from them to be remotely excited about

No one will buy him. No one will loan him.
He will see out the last year of his contract and it won't be extended.
Gutted for the fella he is genuine class when he wasn't made of crisps.

I have long since decided to view Sturridge as a bonus when fit for the odd time we might need him. We've had long enough to plan to play without him when injured, which to date is almost always, so it's no big deal now either way, apart from being tough on the lad himself as he cant be blamed for having a glass body.

I'm sorry, what do you mean calling him a gypsy? Calling him lazy is unfair. Lots of people get injured on the job, and he's had a variety of different issues, multiple surgeries, and seemingly tried everything. He looks trim and fit, and he's scoring goals in preseason. If he's on our books and plays well, I'm happy to have him. We're short on options for backup up top, and there are few better natural finishers around than he is.
