Indeed.
They will suit us well I think. Not that quick, and like to go forwards - a bit like Bournemouth at times.
But on the other hand they are Italian and hence can defend a 1-0 lead deep.
Will be interesting. They've conceded 12 goals in the competition this season as opposed to our 7, and they've scored 15 to our 33 (not counting qualifying rounds. We've conceded 9 more than they have in the league, but scored 28 more. On the balance of play, I'm not sure how much better at defending we can say they are.

surely we should be comparing it to the 2005 team. This team would win hands down. only gerrard, hamman, carra and hyppia would get it I don't know that Hamman would. Gerrard and Alonso for sure. Hyppia and maybe Carra. This team certainly has a higher Ceiling than the majority of them.

We had some world class players in 2008: Torres, Gerrard, Alonso, Macherano. How did we not win anything?

None of our current midfield are at the level of those 3!

Positionally and in terms of tackling, Hamman was superior, but put Hamman circa 2005 in this team, I'm not sure he'd have the legs for it. Masch was far superior to Hamman (though I love Didi), and he would make it, but I think Didi would be too slow.
Hamann was ahead of the game in his mind, so his lack of pace was rarely, if ever exposed. He was very similar to Makelele and players like that form the base of a successful side. A player like Hamann would compliment our current crop of players perfectly.

The prem is faster than it was 13 years ago, and I don't think he would keep up. Loved him to bits, and he played his heart out, but Momo and Masch were upgrades on him, even then.

We came close to the title in 09 with that core, but we didn't have similar quality on the bench. United just had more attacking options than we did, even though our first 11 was as good as anyone's.

Hamman was an immensely intelligent player one of the best defensive mids we have ever had in my opinion I love the man, personally. I think he was very canny, especially in terms of his positioning, and he could read a game. I just think he had physical limitations. I certainly wouldn't mind having him in his prime in the squad now, but he had physical limitations that fond memories may mask.
