Milner showed a lot of potential when he was at Leeds. He went to Newcastle 4 years ago for about £3.5 mill and was loaned out i believe.
We could have picked him up then, because he would have done a turn as back up. If we can presently afford £1.7m for Shelvey and £2.5m for Wilson then we could have had Milner for £3.5 back then.
We should also change the structure of the squad as well. At present we have a number of players who very rarely play yet never feature for our reserves. Players such as Cavalieri, Riera, Spearing, Degen, etc.

he was driven out with the whole barry saga proved rafa wrong with a stunning last season and then took up a very nice offer from real madrid, and now holds the midfield in the spannish team consistently so if thats not emerging form rafas reign i dont know what is..... So True there mate...alonso ran the show for spain tonight.. Excellent midfielder

Masch is irreplacable, there is not a defensive midfielder in Europe that plays like him.
Him and Torres are the only decent players to emerge from the Rafa years I agree 100% with your estimation of Masch, fantastic player and he if goes we are in the deepest sh!t imaginable next season - particularly as Gerrard's legs (as well as his drive and determination) seem to have gone. There - I've said it.

There - I've said it. I don't think Gerrard has lost his drive or determination. If he had he probably wouldn't consider another club and stay at LFC. He still wants to win!!! And if Mascherano goes, who know what we'll get in his place because no-one knows what's happening with the club. We may get an owner who can splash the cash a bit and put some decent funds into the transfer kitty. With that and 30 mill for Masch we could buy a few very decent players and have a great season!! All conjecture at this stage unfortunately.

or we have to lose a 20- 30 million player and replace him with a 5-10 million player ability wise a player costing 5-10 million pound will be exactly the same as the Argentine, lets be honest a player that cant pass, cant head, cant dribble and cant score goals should only cost that amount anyway, the man with his bookings and sending off record is a liability enough as it is as well.

I know a lot of people would disagree with me but i'd like to see us go for Joey Barton as a replacement.

Barton can pass, shoot, tackle, he's got energy and passion. I reckon he'd be the perfect partner for Stevie in the centre, he'd complement him well.
Obviously, there's a few aggression issues to iron out but a good manager could do that.
