I was surprised that no one went in for him over the Summer, it seemed like he was available for 60-70m. A bargain for the likes City, Real, Barca etc.

Yeah, I though Barca might to replace Neymar, Dortmund look like they would sell, there never seemed to be much interest in him last summer, he said himself a few times he wasn't sure if he'd stay, Dortmund never issued big statements saying he wasn't available etc, I'd like him to come and replace Sturridge, but I doubt FSG would splash out £70 million on a 28 year old with limited sell on value.

70m for a 28 yrs old is not going to happen, probably this is why he is still at Dortmund. I can only see a Chinese club pay that kind of money for him.

I can't see us spending that on him but his age shouldn't be an issue. He's still got a good few years left in him and if he could score us the goals to win something then surely it's worth it?

FSG looks at resale value as well which will probably decrease because he had reached his peak age.

So should we even try to sign VVD in January? I would almost rather us go for De Vrij or that kid at Atletico ath this point. A lot of money we offered, and he hasn't exactly set the world alight this year.

That’s the thing red. We’d need to smash the world record for a defender to get him and at that price and at 26, I wouldn’t say he has that much resale value if that’s what FSG are looking for.

That's pretty much what Utd did with Van Persie, he had 2 great seasons with them and his goals won them the title, they weren't the best team.

They must of been to secure a League title as the best team over a season always wins it, Leicester City were the best team over 38 games season before last.

It was Fergie's last season when they won the PL, most Utd fans say that was a poor Man Utd team, Man City blew it as they were defending the PL, Fergy went all out to get Van Persy and paid £30 million with no real sell on value as he knew he needed his goals.

But you are correct, the team that finishes top is the best, but I'd use the same logic to say were we the best team in Europe in 2005?

yes have to agree, winning in 2005 was on the same scale as Leicester City winning the Premier League, no coincidence that very same team of ours was ripped to pieces the very next season by the manager as it wasn't good enough, didn't we lose about fourteen games that season which says it all really.

We won the one that mattered.
