klopp doesn't take defence seriously enough..shame looks like. he wants it to be thrilling n what not. I recall he denied that full throttle/rock thingy about football but i just feel thats how he likes it. properly defending and organized may mean we get boring n scrappy 1-0 s . who would enjoy that

klopp doesn't take defence seriously enough..shame This is the problem, the way we set up leaves gaps everywhere. Our full backs get picked based on their ability to attack, defensive awareness is secondary, surely it should be the other way round?

As I've said times before there's little difference between Klopp and Rodgers in style of play or even tactics, except Rodgers tried out a wider range of attacking styles. However their lack of focus on defence is identical, with similar results, we can only win when we out score other teams. Interestingly their difficulties with parked buses are also identical.

We use zonal defending right? Why not just go man to man, so much easier to get right

Is that not always the case in football? Ok more seriously, I think we have 2 problems when it comes to defence, one is set pieces probably because we have a relatively very short and non physical team with not a lot of strong good headers to attack the ball in zonal marking and secondly, we play a very high line leaving too much space. I would add that we struggle to back track and a Matic type of player would have helped to sort out the second problem. For the first one our physically weaker players need to have more bottle

Having a commanding Keeper who marshalls the defence would go a long way in solving our horrific, historical inabilities on set pieces. Mignolet continues to divide opinion which initself is a problem. He is a good shot stopper, but he never truly looks like he has much trust from those around him. We desperately need a Keeper who barks at his defence in letting them know what's going on around them before the set piece is taken. A Keeper who is willing to poleaxe everybody in his way, in getting to the ball. This is basic stuff that should be ingrained in a Keeper in training. I have no doubt Mignolet has it in him to do this basic stuff right, it just needs a Coach who knows what the f*ck he's doing...John Achterberg is a HUGE part of the problem!

When he saved the penalty against Hoffenheim, Klopp praised both Mignolet and Achterberg, so he probably rate the latter. Also, as Karius does seem to have the same problem, I rather think it is either our training or we do not have the right height and strength for set pieces.
