We could get Michael Keane from Burnley for allot less, he's a very good defender and hasn't been out for 6 months. He's had a good season for Burnley, a team that defend deep and don't play the expansive football we do. In my opinion he would be exposed playing for us, VVD has all the attributes we need, pace, aerial dominance and ability on the ball. Michael Keane is definitely a poor mans version.

I know what you mean, VvD is a better player, but is he £30-50 million better? (depending on the real valuation) he's also had a bad injury and not kicked a ball for 6 months, so it's a big risk to invest so much money on him. It's also unlikely we can buy him now, with the mess up so far and water under the bridge, you are talking paying £75+million now for Southampton to do business. Keane is a solid defender, which is what we have been really missing, he's young but experienced in PL and can be developed, he came through the UTD academy, so I'm sure he's a decent footballer, but at Burnley he won't be able to show all his capabilities due to how they play. We can also get him atm, he's affordable and Burnley have pretty much said he's available if he wants to move and they would not block him moving up for the right fee, I reckon £25-30 million would get him, which would be good business, especially as we are likely to sell Sakho for a similar fee. If we sell Sakho, we need 2 CB really anyways, so we get Keane nowand we can go back in for VvD when it all settles down and VvD can put the pressure on from his side for a move, if he really wants the move.

Is Keane better than Lovern? That is the only question we need to be asking. If we cannot get a decent upgrade on Lovern. We would be better off trying to get someone in on a free and spending the money elsewhere. Than wasting 20-30m
I don't think we are getting Van Dkye as the are looking for too much now

But there is no point on splashing £20-£30million on someone who isn't a clear and substantial upgrade. Is Michael Keane that person? Not for me.

I think Keane is an upgrade on Lovren, he makes allot less mistakes and doesn't take as many risks, he's far more consistent and a solid defender, how he fits in and develops is an unknown for any player until they join and start playing for us. I doubt we will get rid of Lovren, this is to replace Sakho, probably to be first choice CB with Matip, with Lovren being third choice, but with Matips injury record and the amount of European games, Lovren will still play a decent amount of games.

I mentioned Kurt Zouma of Chelsea a couple of weeks ago on here and I think it'd be worth giving it a try to sign him. He's young and has done well when given a rare appearance by Chelsea. He's a French International and will be looking for more gametime to try and impress the French Selectors for next years World Cup, something he is likely not to get at Chelsea with now Conte's preferred back 3 system. Liverpool should try and run the rule over players on the fringes of teams who play for their Country because we could pick up some decent players that any other time wouldn't be willing to move from the likes of the elite teams.

I can't see Chelsea letting Zouma leave, especially with JT leaving, but he would be a good signing, but I think we need an experienced CB also to put the pressure on/replace Lovren.

What's the odds on us ending up with Terry on a free? It'd be a long way from 60m and 200k per week! But is it conceivable?
