Wouldn't go as far as your description of them but what I will say is they were certainly better than what we have seen since, don't think they were good enough to win a league tho. I think Alonso was probably the best out of the bunch who went on to greater things and Mascherano too..even though I thought he was a dreadful player, the rest were decent but fizzled out after that season. Mascherano the 'dreadful' player who has captained and is first choice for Argentina (135 caps) as well as playing for and being first choice for Barcelona since leaving Liverpool.

And Phil Neville if I recall wasn't first choice for Man Utd, he was more of a utility player across defence and midfield. Mascherano has spent the prime of his career at the top whilst Phil Neville moved down to Everton.

Argentina are not that much better than England, better yes but not won any world cups since 86 unless u want to include Mickey Mouse trophies like the Copa America or Olympic Games one. I think you will find when United won there historic treble Phil Neville played in as many games as your Keane, Scholes and Giggs etc including the European Cuo Final win against Bayern Munich. Just because Neville ended his career at Everton shouldn't take anything away from him, no Liverpool player in recent years can compare career wise to Neville.

Argentina are absolutely miles better than England, their recent World Cup performance proves that. (Beaten finalists) I'm not getting into a debate with a 'Liverpool' fan about Phil Neville so good luck baiting me with that one. What I will say is that he moved to Everton in his prime, Mascherano went to Barcelona, if you think that's the same standard you need your heading testing.

England are hopeless I agree, they normally get knock out stages or World Cup or maybe Quarters if lucky but like I said Argentina are not much better as they may go a little bit further but none win world cups last 30 years. I know how limited Phil Neville is but what I am saying is his career and honours are not much different to Masheranos. The reason I mentioned Phil Neville in the first place was because somebody used Mascherano playing for s top club and having a load of caps meant he was some sort of good player so I used Neville who is similar as my example to prove what a stupid example it was to use in the first place. Point made let's move on...

Point made let's move on... It's not a stupid example at all. Mascherano was a top player for us, he allowed Alonso the time on the ball to look fantastic and Gerrard to move further forward making him more effective. He was a destroyer type of a midfielder, not glamorous in any way shape or form but extremely effective. Very similar to Makelele although a little more destructive and mobile in my opinion. Comparing him to Phil Neville is like comparing a Ferrari to your Ford Focus.

He was so dreadful that he went to Barca and won everything possible there. I really think you should change your name as you are not wise at all, on the contrary.

I personally thought he was worse than Hamann as in most limited player to play for us pound for pound.

Destructive players like Mascherano/Makalele do not generally offer much more creatively, so I guess they get a bad press, I think now players have to be more 'all round' like in Klopps system, but the top teams need players like this, to allow their creative/flair players to operate, like Gerard and Alonso looked most effective with Mascherano along side them.
