Report: Napoli Reject Liverpool’s €22m Bid For Ezequiel Lavezzi

The Vesuviani have turned down the Reds’ initial offer for ‘El Pocho’, however, the parties could meet again next week.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has rebuffed a €22 million bid from Premier League giants Liverpool for Argentine star Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The 24-year-old has been frequently associated with a move away from the San Paolo in recent weeks, with the Italian press suggesting that his agent, Alejandro Manzoni, has been in talks with Juventus.

It is claimed the Vesuviani were approached by an unnamed emissary on behalf of the Merseyside outfit, however, De Laurentiis said no to the initial bid.

Things could change at the start of next week, though. Manzoni is reportedly arranging a direct meeting between the two clubs for Monday.

Lavezzi is tied to the Campani until 2013 but there have been reports his representatives will seek a considerable pay rise at the end of the season.

The former San Lorenzo man, who has netted seven goals in 28 league appearances this season, currently earns €1.3m per season at the San Paolo. Liverpool are allegedly prepared to offer him a salary of €4m to lure him to Anfield.

Lavezzi has been sidelined with a muscular problem since Napoli’s 1-0 win over Inter last month but he could be back in action against Catania this weekend.

Presumably if he's going for 22 million euro then he must be decent. But with stats like that (a goal every four games), I recon he's a link striker for in the hole, or Napoli are a rubbish team.

either that or the Napoli President is talking sh*t to get interest.

one goal every 372 minutes in the league.

so roughly one goal in every 4.13 games.

he's a very good player that probably would play in one of the positions behind torres...Don't judge him on the amounts of goals because he's more of an attacking midfielder than a natural forward...

I don't watch a lot of of Italian football tbh, but the little i've seen of Lavezzi, he looks excellent, absolutely lightning quick and not scared to take his man on.

Think it's worth remembering that whilst it wasn't terrible, Torres' goal tally wasn't exactly amazing before he joined Liverpool, so it's not the be all and end all.

The best thing about what's reported is that we are truly trying to compete with the big clubs, and that we're looking for quality attacking players.

Lavezzi, Suarez, Gourcuff, Tevez, Silva. I think landing one of these players would be excellent news.

i know that you probably could make any player look good at youtube, but this player is the real deal...Would be perfect when torres does'nt play, but even more perfect in one of the positione behind him...

Kuyt/Lavezzi - Gerrard/Lavezzi - Yossi/Lavezzi

Torres/Lavezzi

Speed to burn and good with his feet. Just needs to work on his shooting. He would give most defenders in the Prem shudders as he runs at them.

He may not have a large goal tally but I bet there was a few assists.
