H&G were chancers, they took a gamble, they bought us saying they would not put us in debt, but then used the club as the asset to get the loan, with the interest loan paid from our revenue to finance their debt.
The world financial market collapsed, and they were part of that, a few years later with the mega SKY deal, they might have pulled it off.
Here's a thought.... are FSG much different? Aren't they also just chancers... aka speculative investors?

They're a lot smarter than H & G.
That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

and perhaps just luckier. If there was a financial crisis now and they needed funds do you think they would try and cash in on Coutinho? If yes, they wouldn't be much different to H&G.

Here's a thought.... are FSG much different? Aren't they also just chancers... aka speculative investors? Unless your a fan/love the club, they are all investing to make money/get something out of it, Abu Dhabi bought City for the world wide advertising/prestige owning a top club gives them, they don't love Manchester as a place or City as a club, I live here, we're hard to love FSG are running us as a business though, they are experienced at running sports clubs (franchises uggggghhhhh), so they saw Liverpool as a team with a great history that was not marketed well as a business, with huge potential that they could buy relatively cheap, with a relatively small investment/FFP coming in, they could turnaround and maximise revenue to make us a great club again and make money for their business group, nothing wrong with that, but at no point have they risked the club or lied like H&G did when they said Liverpool would not be in debt. The only thing you could say FSG have not delivered on/lied about is that we can compete with anyone in the transfer market, but I think that was based on FFP, if that would have been implemented by Uefa as promised, it's only Man Utd and Arsenal that could have matched/bettered us in the PL based on business/turnover.

H&G could perhaps say something similar... i.e. that if this, that or the other hadn't happened things would have been different.
FSG have also backtracked on the extent to which the stadium will be developed... this when we've just had a record tv deal.
FSG also said they would scour the world for the best man when looking for a new manager... and came up with Roy on that occasion If I'm right... or perhaps it was the time we were left with the choice between Martinez and Rodgers.
Klopp has seriously saved them for now I believe.

But they wouldn't need to sell Coutinho to finance the debt so the banks didn't put us into liquidation. If Klopp wanted to sell Coutinho for £100 million to buy 2 £50 million defenders to help us win the league, that's a football choice. Once again, I sound like I love FSG, i'm not, but FSG are positive compared to H&G, even if FSG do have problems, I'd be happier with owners who like football and follow us as a supporter, not as investors as part of the their 'Sports Holdings' or the 'PL Franchise'.

You may be right, but I know there are those who believe that things are not as straightforward as may appear with FSG... including with the deal that made them club owners. I don't know enough about it.

Klopp has seriously saved them for now I believe. Hodgson was already in charge when FSG bought us, they sacked him a few months later in the New Year and Kenny took over, then Rogers, to be fair, there hiring of managers hasn't been too bad considering they didn't have a clue on football, BR was abit of a chancer with his shiny teeth and suits, but he nearly won the PL !!! I think they are learning, Klopp is about the best appointment we could hope for, but it's early days. I don't think FSG ever promised anything in particular on the stadium, H&G promised a new stadium, FSG said they were going to cancel H&G plans and have a new look at it when they bought us, they had already refurbished the Red Sox stadium, so they knew that was an option, I think they got caught up in the heritage of Anfield, I'm half happy we stayed and built the stand, half of me wishes we had a shiny new stadium holding 65,000 people.
