So which one of our standout performers did they allow to leave this Summer then?

I'm suspicious that they were trying to entice offers for Sturridge this last window, given Klopp's treatment of him. If they don't manage to sell him in the January window they'll have to offer him a new contract or else lose him next summer on a free. That'd be bad business and they wouldn't like that. The other problem they have with Sturridge is if they're forced into having to offer him a new contract they'd want him to take a pay cut, which they know he'd refuse. It looks as though failure to get him out this window has put them between a rock and a hard place, unless they can goad him into asking for a transfer in January, watch this space!

I'd didn't realise Sturridge's contract has just a year to run?
Could get interesting how Klopp treats Sturridge between now and January. He'll either play him to get him in form and raising his spirits to sign a contract or keep degrading him to make him want a move. FSG won't allow him to walk away without something for him.

rare bit of chemistry we saw between them last season in our 1-1 draw to spurs, and coutinho's attempted ball for sturridge against burnley, but I don't think klopp can get them both playing their best while under his stewardship. failed to win either final with them starting each. albeit they did combine for sturridge's delightful goal against sevilla. I don't think a single fan will agree with me, but that's why I'm here to Debate.

if sturridge is sold coutinho should follow suit too eventually, he's not irreplaceable, even if he is an exquisite player. in the incoming seasons we should look for a replacement for him, as we might have to anyway. but I think the gradual change in our identity would benefit from not having reliance on either player going forward.

I think Sturridge and Coutinho can play in the same team and be successful, depends on Klopp's plans.

Sturridge and Coutinho were the standout signings from the Rodgers era, and the only players you would say have top top quality although others are coming through.

Or maybe Klopp hasn't been impressed with Sturridge in training, or preferred a different type of striker in games against Spurs and Arsenal away, which too get 4 points from appears to be a good enough decision.

Sturridge contract runs to summer 2019, so he has 3 years left. I guess next summer it will be agree a new deal or be sold, with 2 years left, I can't see him fitting into Klopps long term plans, I guess it also depends on if we qualify for the CL next season and how many games he plays this season.

yes they can we beat man utd (a) villarreal (h) and we almost won the final, but can they both play their best, which is the point I'm making. I don't think klopp will try to develop that relationship even if it can be a fairly good one I don't want him to as this isn't about being average and just improving the squad you currently have alone any-more it's about changing the identity of the club on the pitch

Klopp's identity for Liverpool is "Heavy Metal" football meaning pressing, hard work and movement off the ball. That is never Daniel Sturridge and only occasionally it is Coutinho.

So i cant agree at all with the thread topic.

I couldnt care less if any of the old brigade left, because this is a new regime and we need a team of 11 men and if the players are not up to the fight then thanks and good-bye.

the heavy metal was just an analogy to contrast, but yes it's the rest of that.

where have I said I want us to have the old identity with coutinho shooting from range because we can't break down a fairly poor side?
