I think it's another pitiful Daily Mail story.

I think a vast amount of the media have got it wrong in terms of how we operate our transfers. I think Rafa will get ALL the money he makes from sales to reinvest. The point of debate should be what money will he be given to him from the clubs profits as a transfer budget. Even last summer I think he was given everything he made from sales, but he was forced to use the money he was given as a transfer budget, from the clubs profits, to use to pay the re-signing on fees regarding the new contracts he gave to Torres, Gerrard, Agger, Kuyt etc. That was what killed us last summer and that is why Rafa felt so mislead by the owners as he'd negotiated his contract on the proviso that he would get a £20m a summer transfer budget to spend on new players, he wasn't told that all renegotiated contracts had to be paid from this as well.

What CP has always said, is that money from sales goes into a player account and that this is never used to pay off debt, as it's purely for funding signings. It's my opinion but I tend to believe him on that score, it makes a lot of sense to run things like that.

Adriano is free maybe worth a shot if you can get him into shape?

adriano is on his way to roma. if we're going to sign someone for free we should look at hamit altintop at bayern who's running out of contract this summer.

What CP said on the Offal 13/1/10

"The idea that we would ever wish to sell our top players is completely against the interests of this club.

In fact our key priority since the summer has been to secure our senior players on long term improved contracts, because we remain of the view that our starting eleven compares with anybody in the Premier League.

Our plan - and what we are working on - is to try and improve the team; not to be so stupid as to reduce the quality of our squad.

The suggestion in any way that we would sell players in order to pay down debt or pay money to our owners is preposterous. Neither is true. Neither is possible.

Any proceeds we generate from the sale of players can only go into our player account for the recruitment of new players."

Seems pretty clear re the income generated from sales, so why do the Mail print such s**t?

yea, i'm not naive enough to believe hicks talks about spending big will come true. but why should i believe the daily mail when they produce something time after time without any sources. what they wrote today was total bs as usual but unfortunately there's probably some reds out there that believes them and has had their day ruined.

evans on the times said purslow had confirmed there would be £15-20m to spend. that might be bs as well but would rafa really still be here without knowing he had some money to spend? my answer is no.

As regards the source I completely agree- not trustworthy.

I also truly hope you're right but the experience of the last two seasons has been that people have persistently said we have £15m to spent. This has proved to be nonsense.

Its a question of the optimism of fans, the expectation that LFC will have a budget to match expectation leading to a figure that is never really exists- its a confidence trick.

I simply have very little faith in anything that comes from 'sources at the club' these days.

Quite agree. When it's a toss up between the Daily Mail or Tony Evans, a red and chief football Editor of the Times (who probably has far better sources at LFC) I know who I'd rather believe.
