Hopefully Klopp can turn Moreno into a decent defender, he needs to massively improve on his positional play and not leaping in with rash tackles. Klopp was a defender, so if he thinks he can sort Moreno out, great, I just wonder how much time and how many mistakes it will take.

If selling Smith we still need cover for Moreno, I guess Flannagan can play there, but with his injury record over the last few years it's a gamble, I've read a few comments that Matip can cover LB, but I haven't seen enough of him to judge yet. I think Smith should have been given games towards the end of last season when Moreno was woeful.

I guess Klopp has seen enough to judge, like you say we need to trim the squad, but I get the feeling we are selling players we get bids for, a bid for Moreno is unlikely as he is a £20 million player, where as Smith is through the youth system so available 'cheap'.

Flanno is going on loan by the looks or it and Smith has a buy back clause.

I did hear something on that last week, seems silly to me, he's 23 and played a near full season 2 years ago, so he has the ability/quality to play in the first team, he's back from injury now and is having a pre-season, so he should be in the squad, I do not see the point in loaning him out, especially as we are weak on fullbacks, in quality and numbers, I hope if we sell Smith we keep Flannagan.

At least we have a buy back clause on Smith if we sell according to reports.

Smith was given a fair few games towards the end of last season and he isn't any better defensively than Moreno, both are better going forward which is a problem in itself. I watched him live away at Swansea where he got sent off due to two completely stupid challenges.

Perhaps we could sign a left back who knows how to defend, that is the positions first job after all.

Totally agree, for the last few years we seem to be signing defenders who are good on the ball/going forward rather than as defenders, firstly they need to be good defenders and strengthen us in defence, if they are good going forward that's a bonus.

I haven't seen enough of Smith to judge yet, he looked abit stronger in defence to me than Moreno, but he was caught out of position a few times, but I was hoping he would improve with experience/coaching, whereas Moreno has had lots of experience and coaching and has never seemed to improve. I never saw much of Moreno at Sevilla, so I do not know if he has gone down a level/is struggling in the PL, or if he was like this at Sevila (if he was why did we pay £12 million???)

I'd much prefer to see Flanagan at left back ahead of Moreno, at least he is solid and dependable although we'd lose a little going forward. At the end of the day we need 4 defenders that can defend first and foremost, that is their primary role. We need a solid foundation on which to build, if we don't give away goals easily we'll become a much tougher team to beat because I'd always fancy our team to score!

Has Flanagan gone yet? I would prefer to keep him as he plays RB as well and has PL experience in both positions. The amount of money coming in for players we are not using is really incredible.

£4m for Sinclair

£13m for Allen should happen.
£30m for Benteke should also happen.

Add on Balotelli, and possibly one or two of the midfield group of Henderson, Lallana, Markovic and Lucas and our sales could hit £100m for players the manager clearly had no intentions of using. This is amazing business. All capable players but expensive to keep hold of and none considered as automatic first choice.

There are also some sensible loans going on too. Klopp is shaping up his squad quite nicely.

As for the LB position I could see Milner filling in there as an emergency should anything happen to Moreno seeing as Gomez is out. I would keep Moreno as an attacking option even if we were to get another LB because it would be useful to have a player on the bench who can cover 2 positions.

im not a big fan but we could actually use him as a cover for more than one positions.
