I agree now is the time to spend though with the extra money from the tv deals, if we can improve for next season and long term.

I'm no accountant but correct

So modest too.

What I don't get is how some people think that they either know more than staff at the club that have been working in football for 30 years or that a massive light bulb has appeared above their head and they've thought of something NO ONE within LFC has EVER though of.

EVERYONE connected to LFC knows we've disappointed year after year on the pitch and in the transfer market. The solution is not as simple as "the TV money is here, time to throw it all at Gotze" (example).

Do you not think that even Rodgers knew full well the players he bought weren't really good enough for sustained competitiveness? I'm 29 and for as long as I can remember, we have more often than not, settled for what's available, with the odd exception.

Even the best players we've bought in the last 10 years (Suarez, Torres, Coutinho) were picked as more budget options at the time compared to who the teams above us were buying. I distinctly remember the backlash on here over the Coutinho (Inter reject, too lightweight) and Suarez (never heard of him, not fit to wear #7) signings, despite the fact that someone with WAY more information and experience has deemed them suitable. It is, of course, a 2-way street. Those same people were involved with Carroll (had a banging season the year before, in a team set up to play to his strengths), Downing (bought for Carroll's sake I presume), Markovic (actually perfomred well for Benfica dopmestic + CL), The Summer of Southampton (still paid too much but I'm happy we have Lovren and Lallana now), Aspas (LOL), Alberto (LOL)...the list goes on, but I struggle, I REALLY struggle to believe a whole committee of people thought Aspas was gonna do much more than he actually managed.

Since I've been watching LFC, we have NEVER bought a ready made, in demand player for big bucks. It's not how Liverpool work. Maybe it should be but at the moment it's not.

Everyone else has TV money too so it's not as if we're in any better of a situation with regards to competing in the transfer market than anyone else in the PL. We can offer bigger wages, sure, but we're not in any European competition this year which automatically rules us out of a lot players, regardless of the wages on offer.

what lol? why are you having a go at me, to try to make your opinion come across stronger? wind yer neck in, I never claimed I know more than the people at the club, nothing I've put really justifies you accusing me of that.

I can't be negative about our transfer affairs because you think I think it's simply about money? I don't, but money talks, and there is the whole argument of the richest clubs being the ones that are the most successful, which I've heard a million times, which is normally the case, even if the foxes pulled off the biggest shock in sports history.

sorry why were people getting so excited, and buzzing for the summer then if you say it's been like this for 29 years? if rodgers knew that players he was buying for 20 odd million weren't built for sustained competitiveness, which I can understand, then we should be taking bigger steps to improving our academy and producing young talents, home grown and abroad through our youth system for the long term. If you can't buy top talents, then producing them is the only other way.

Neck is fully wound in thanks.

Wasn't specifically aimed at you or your post, more the opinion that you have and share with a large majority of this forum. You and I obviously have vastly different opinions but that's fine, I'm sure we're vastly different people IRL. No need to get aggy.

It may seem like I'm trying to make my opinion strong but maybe that's because it took me 30 minutes to think up and type out in a clear manner? You can make any writing appear more powerful by using the right language and proper strcture. It doesn't mean the point is any more or less valid. Theres a lot of writing in my original post but that shouldn't be taken as a barrage of opinions, I just have a lot to say.

My point was more stressing the fact there are plenty of people on this forum (and other) that keep exclaiming these outlandish statement like "THIS PLAYER IS THE ANSWER" OR "I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S SIGNED THIS GUY WHEN THE OTHER IS MORE WHAT WE NEED". Klopp knows the positions we need to strengthen in; he knows more than you, me and probably the rest of the internet combined.

Why are people getting excited? Regardless of Liverpool's activity, transfer windows are always exciting for me, always a surprise in there. Then there's the Euros and the proper beginning of Klopps reign. I'm excited, and I suggest you jump on board!

The problem with "taking bigger steps to improving our academy and producing young talents, home grown and abroad" is that it's a complete oxymoron. We've put most of our faith in young, promising players (either from our academy or others) for the last 5 years, and we've got no where. How many academy graduates can we now consider 1st team squad members? Ibe...that's it for me and now he's even looking like he's not good enough. Rodgers knew the players weren't good enough but he either wasn't given the option of better players or was simply priced out of them by our budget restrictions.

Rodgers was very happy when we bought Markovic as much as I can remember, saying that top talents are choosing LFC because of his brand of football, he was also very happy after he bought Allen, the Welsh Xavi and Lallana to name a few I can remember.

im all ok for a couple of young prospects as long as our tcp purchases out weigh the prospects and at this point in time we could well do with out the prospects ! imo

I suppose in general you're right. But at what price does someone become considered a top class player? It seems people on here are much more concerned that we pay lots for someone rather than if they're any good and a good fit for the team.

And when you think about it, someone is only worth what any club is willing to pay. We could ask for £60m for Lucas and someone could pay it. Doesn't make him any better (extreme example I know but you get my drift).

You also then have to think about the fact that we're not bank rolled by some super rich sugar daddy or, like Utd, have a massive turnover. We can't compete on the level of City, Utd, Chelsea and to a certain extent Arsenal. We have to be smarter in our approach and that may mean signing more 'prospects' or shopping around to try and find players that fit. Again, this won't make them bad players but won't satisfy the fan base as they're not the mega bucks marque signings that we all seem to want.

Do you really think anybody would pay 60m for Lucas? I think you made a mistake on the currency

The worrying link I've seen is that Amavi fella from Villa!

The usual liverpool transfer circle.

Inquire about guirreiro.

Put in low bid for jonas hector.

End up with some young washed up english player playing in mid table championship side for leeds or a relegated Villa.

Thats the FSG way.

Same way we are been linked with Gotze and higuain. Its all b*llocks, we will end up with someone like Townesend who we will pay 20+ million for or we will go back to the classic lets buy from southampton. When you buy 6/7/8 place players how can you truly expect to finish inside the top 4?

Or it's all paper talk and lazy journalism that people think is just FSG making stuff up to appease the fans. Do you not think they've better things to do than to cook up stories and make false bids just to try and fool us?

Why after everytime we fail or things go to sh*t, they come out with these stories of new sponsorship deals? Or some new partnership?

They have to be seen to make liverpool competitive and still a big team. Unfortunately we have fallen to absolute sh*t under FSG. They wouldnt brake the bank for sanchez we ended up with balotelli. Theres always a less cheaper option whos probably Home grown and young. Thats the way FSG think.

Put henderson, lallana and allen up against players from another league in similar position to us in the league and they are mediocre. The thing of buying English players needs to be looked at. Personally, if we were required to have a minimum of 3/4 i would only have 3/4. The lack of technical ability and footballing brain shows in Europe. Im not saying all english players are crap. But theres only a few who are worth considering and they are all playing for other teams.

These rumors and stories are fabricated 99% of the time i completely agree with u. I dont actually believe we have signed a player until they are in the kit at melwood kicking a ball around for the media. Unfortunately, the player or players kicking the ball around arent good enough for liverpool and nowhere near top 4 level.

I don't remember FSG doing anything like that. Also the two players you mention are playing for considerably smaller clubs than us, so why are we not accusing FSG of buying mid table players like we probably would if they played for an equivalent English club?

I haven't seen any transfer news come up for a while so there's nothing or comment on or moan about. The best players are playing at summer tournaments so it should be a positive that things have gone quiet while they're going on.

FSG learnt from their mistakes of buying predominately British players a few years ago. I'm not sure if losing out on Sanchez was FSG's fault. Rodgers said Sanchez wanted to move to London so if that was true, and it was also reported in the media at the time, you can't blame FSG.

If you know 99% of it is paper talk, why get so bent out of shape about it? We're linked with every man and his dog most summers and with the best will in the world we're never going to be in for them all or get them all.

We don't have the money of the bigger clubs in the country and we're not in the Champions League so can't compete on that front. Chelsea and Utd aren't in the ECL this coming season but they have bucket loads of cash compared to us so I don't see how we can compete with them either?

Like I keep saying, we have to be smart and buy the right players. I trust and believe that Klopp has the say on transfers and I trust he'll get it right whether the players are the 'marque' type signings we all want or not.

FSG haven't done us many favours but the one thing they have done is spend big money over the years it's just that the money has gone on the wrong players / type of players. If they let Klopp get on with it I think we'll be OK but he's not known for buying big so I wouldn't expect anything big, just the right players.
