lol no I don't I know it's important to have a good goalkicker. just not straight from the boot, or glove to set up a counter attack. fine, you're going to get what an extra 3 goals a season, with a high risk tactic/instruction from your goalkeeper if you're lucky, going to make all the difference at the end of the season.

To play a counter attackin style would require signing 2 quick wide men and a more mobile striker.

Spot on, though you say 2 quick wide men, don't you mean attack mids or forwards aswell, as sterling and suarez were wide of a mobile sturridge in the middle? in the 4123 counter attacking.

We can counter, as we did against southampton with some nice through balls and man city, and even when we went long to benteke against chelsea late on. Just not 'quick' counter as you are saying, it's more restrained, and we can't rattle them off and build up the scoreline all the time as we failed to do against stoke.

Robbie Keane was barely at Liverpool for 6 months and was left on the bench a lot before going back to Tottenham so I don't think our tactics ever revolved around him.

That's not what the arsenal fans seemed to think when they were singing about reina kicking it long to robbie. I'm just trying to point out we shouldn't try to emulate or replicate things that didn't bring us any majors.

I know the goal you are talking about and that's one example. I still don't think it was a tactic because Robbie Keane wasn't at LFC long enough to be the focal point of anything.

Reina's distribution was immense as others have said.

No it's not really something we used regularly, I'm being cheeky really, trying to compare keane to benteke in the way we were going about using him especially at the start of the season under BR.

I think it was in the same season but Reina actually assisted a goal for Albert Riera at home to Aston Villa when we beat them 5-0 with a monster of a kick downfield.

I don't think we can just focus on playing counter attacking football.

We are LFC and a lot of teams will park the bus against us, as they have always done.

Against top teams and other teams that want to play we can opt to go on the counter, but against the others we have to have something else in the tool box.

For that to work we either need 2 different setups of players (at least for certain positions), or the players in the squad need to be versatile and useful for a number of formations and tactics.

I'm not saying we should, and exactly that's the whole reason we don't just wanna play this one brand of football, but it's important we play attacking football because that's what's suited to liverpool, preferably switching between possession football and less possession pressing/counter football. Because the most important thing is to score and to not concede at the end of the day, that's the name of the game.

(even though Barca manage to play possession and pressing football in the big games like the CL final).

That's probably how we need to set ourselves up.

Play offensive football and try to score many goals. Quality experience and value for the money for all the fans!

But when we play deeper and counter we need to swith into attack fast, whereas the other possession style football needs to be with a lot of perseverance and aimed at quality finishing instead of our regular "gung-ho-54-shots-but-only-2-on-goal-approach".

I contacted several of your former team mates and asked them how many goals your world wide distribution lead to and the final figure was a big fat zero.

In fact they said you were about as reliable in goals as a Saudi Arabian shoplifter.

Against the smaller teams we focus too much on possession. Also we should play two strikers especially at home.

Our crossing and decision making at vital times has also been absolutely terrible. No commitment aimless running and naive defending has been the story of our season.
