starting to think Coutinho and Firmino cant play at the same time, they want the same space, even Lallana to a lesser extent.

the Man City game seems to be an outlier

Not convinced in the 3 AMs playing together - they don't threaten the goal or feed the striker enough. All too similar - doing the same thing - not enough diversity.

Firmino, Lallana and Can all have such poor first touch on the ball. They miss easy passes and put us under unnecessary pressure. Don't know how many times I nearly choked tonight because of that!

Can at least tries to get the ball back, but the other two??? Not so much!

Coutinho. What to say? I think there is something fundamentally wrong with him atm. He doesn't trust other players with the ball who clearly are in better positions than him, but ALWAYS opts for his long range misplaced little huff and puff shot. Must have been at least half a dozen of those today. How many on target? 1 "pass" straight at Mannone! The rest over the stands or aimed at the corner flag! Just wtf is he doing? He seems to have forgotten how to play forwards through passing the ball to other team mates. He is so predictable and harmless, and one thing I have noticed the last 2 games is that he seems to be unhappy with the other players missed efforts. Probably thinks they should have given the ball to him instead.

I think the answer to this problem is that he thinks he is the star now, and everything needs to go through him. With Sturridge in the team the balance will shift, and Coutinho needs that to happen to get him click again. He is feeling the pressure building up on him, and that is not good. I wonder whether he has the mind to be THE star player at any club.

Great to get a win and even better to finish the year with a victory. That said it was a poor performance against a really weak team.
At times there was a massive do-nut hole in our midfield when we had two or three midfielders running into the same place.
We desperately need a boss man who can dominate the centre circle, win the ball, shield it, turn and go past players and direct traffic and score goals(an Alonso or a Souness).

man of the match for me: Mignolet had a good game and stopped a couple of likely goals. His reflex saves are top class.

I'm just grateful we have got to the transfer window and now Klopp has the chance to bring a couple of his type of players in.

Too narrow in the final third and not getting behind the defence. Benteke will thrive if given proper service from the widths.

We we're playing Sunderland, and we scraped a rather fortunate goal from a predictable misplaced pass by Lallana, ok we'll take the points but the lack of quality up front in this team is obvious to all but the football blind to see. It's unlikely we'll be able to solve that problem in January, so unless the other unlikely happens, and Sturridge can encouraged to go on the pitch until the summer, we'll be very, very lucky to finish above 6th imo.
