Yep. If we get £20m combined for those three we'll be lucky!

It's a crass policy, when applied in the way it has been at LFC. Nothing wrong with buying potential but we have wasted a lot of money. Last year, we spent well over £100m - with a lot of that on Southampton players - and totally the wrong ones, as it turns out. If we'd bought Shneiderlin, (spelling?) Wanyama and Clyne things might look very different right now - particularly if we'd bought Firmino and Lacazette at the same time. It makes you want to cry.
Saying that, if the Manager we have is prepared to put up with performances like we had at Stoke, it won't matter who we sign. That might be the bigger issue in the long run. The first 10 games this season will decide it for BR.

Can you name 1 (one) big name player that we have signed under Rodgers? Someone that was in demand but who chose us over others and who we were prepared to pay top price/wages for because of their quality. I'm not asking for a lot... just 1. At the other end, how many of the unknown players we've signed have turned out to represent 'long term, sustainable value' ? The same could be asked of the players that fall somewhere in between big name and unknown, players such as Borini, Allen, Lambert. Firmimo is probably the closest to a big name player that we bought under Rodgers. But can you name a big name player that we have ever bought? We don't really seem to buy them Personally I prefer us buying players that make their name with us. But my point was that the club spokesman shouldn't give us some BS about being able to compete but having some super clever reason for not appearing to do so. There is also the argument that football has changed and if we want to be in that top4 for a sustained period then we need to invest in some proven quality, at least in the short term.
'I was only in the game for the love of football - and I wanted to bring back happiness to the people of Liverpool.' Bill Shankly
'We should have made a signing or two in the last couple of transfer windows.' Vish

The same could be asked of the players that fall somewhere in between big name and unknown, players such as Borini, Allen, Lambert. Sakho, Firmino, Lallana. To me they're not elite big names but they are still big names all the same. And the policies that Ayre's talking about were in place before Rodgers came so you can include Suarez in that list.

Re red scouser
So basically saying were buying to develope and sell players F uck that we'll never get anywhere doing that As wilks says buy what we need to improve now should be the priority with the odd couple of potentials thrown in Buy players to develop but don't sell them. We should keep them and that includes Sterling. If we can't hold onto them then we sell them for a premium price.

I wonder what value Borini, Aspas and Balotelli have brought, that's 35m of transfer money. I wonder what value Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez have brought. I also wonder what value Moreintes, Babel and Aqualani brought. All managers have bad signings.

This is getting boring. How many more meaningless threads till the season begins? Yet it's OK to speak about Jurgen Klopp all summer.
