FSG have made every effort to keep our top performing players. The net spend on transfers has consistently been fairly high. They've (up to now) shown patience with Brendan. The stadium is also getting redeveloped. They've chosen to invest in young signings where transfer fees are often large. This is hardly making a few bob and then leaving. This is a long-term project. And even if they did sell up we wouldn't be left in a financial mess.
Elsewhere on this forum we have people discussing selling Sterling, one of our biggest assets, in swap deals with Jovetic or Dzeko. We have people saying we could buy a load of players like De Jong and co on free agents.
It is the fans that are unambitious. Wanting quick fixes and cutting corners.
I'd rather do an Arsenal and not win anything for years but still finish top 4 than be unsustainable. Great teams don't win a trophy once and then disappear. They are competing every season. And only sustainability will allow us to challenge year in year out. Clearly we are not at this level yet. Our team is young and needs time to develop. This doesn't involve selling our best players before they turn 24.
FSG Have every right to keep the wage bill to a minimum. There is nothing disrespectful about their contract offer to Skrtel for instance. It's business. We don't want to be paying a player a big wage in 2 or 3 years time when they're no longer in the team.
There's nothing unambitious about employing a young, relatively inexperienced manager (at elite level). And this 'yes' man malarkey is silly. If they are not a 'yes' man then it just shows that they are not prepared/incapable of working under certain constraints. It is not a positive trait to want control and money, money, money. Top managers are prepared to get their reputation 'muddied' and work under certain constraints.
And before everybody starts mentioning Klopp, please bear in mind this is a long-term sustainable project. One managerial change isn't going to change everything, especially when decisions involving transfers etc. tend to be mutual these days.
Also, buzz words such as 'managing expectations' try to put a negative emphasis on things. It is called being realistic.

long-term sustainable project my backside they have been in charge five years and the club is going backwards the ground redevelopment we have been waiting for, for 15 years turns out to be rebuilding one stand and this is the weakest squad I have known in 50 years of following the club and I dont think we are anywhere near rock bottom yet

although I'm behind the idea of investing in young talent, purely because the established talent requires stiff competition and CL qualification, however, i still believe there needs to be some sort of balance.
it's all good saying arsenal managed it for years, but at the end of the day they were actually making 4th place every season and we aren't.
my main concern is that we are trying to build something based on a model that arsenal don't even use anymore. if you look at their current strategy they are now reinforcing their first 11 with a marquee signing each year. this season it was sanchez, the previous it was ozil.
maybe we will follow suit in the future when the stadium has been expanded and theres more corporate finances incoming. but until then we have to be making progress towards fourth place otherwise we'll struggle to get our hands on the "ozil's and sanchez's" available on the market

This is the worse record I can remember, no trophies for 3 years, get beat 6-1 by a team like Stoke, not even a cup final, probably the worse team I can think of. Common Brodge, you really like LFC to be a mid table team at best.

Which kid of proves that we maybe do have a 'top 4' squad and our manager is the weak link?
