so how many seasons do we wait before we decide it is down to the manager? Rodgers has 2 bad and 1 good(likely fluke) season in 3. We need to set an example right now, that if you want to take the job, be prepared to deliver results, not come in and learn your trade

Stop looking for the quick fix. Stop acting like Liverpool should be at the top of the league. Stop acting like 6th place is terrible. We have been finishing regularly outside the top 4 long before Rodgers was appointed or FSG were in charge. FSG do try to minimise costs. And that’s like 99% of teams. There are very few teams like City or Chelsea. One of the reasons why Barca and Real can spend so much is because their TV revenue isn’t split evenly like in the premier league. Nothing to do with ambition.

If you’ve made it this far well done. This is my opinion it doesn’t mean I’m right and I understand different fans will have different opinions.

All the managers who finished outside the top 4 have been sacked almost always in the season where they fail to get into CL. Benitez(who won CL, FA cup and consistently got us into top 4), Dalglish and HOdgson(exception being Rodgers). I personally think Dalglish, Hodgson as well as Rodgers are all failures and incapable of getting us to where we want to be. Also 6th place is NOT what we should be content with. This whole "we are where we should be" mentality just reeks of a loser's mindset - something evident from ROdgers in matches where we have been clueless.

You can't be successful doing the same thing and expecting different results. If we want to improve, we have to change things. We obviously can't change our owners, but we can change the manager and get some new players which is what most people on this forum are hoping for.

You can't be successful doing the same thing and expecting different results. If we want to improve, we have to change things. We obviously can't change our owners, but we can change the manager and get some new players which is what most people on this forum are hoping for.

Not at all. If you're constantly being unrealistic you will constantly be disappointed. And this is NOT the same as managing expectations.

We don't "want" to finish 5th or 6th but there are 4 clubs above us that are far wealthier, have better squads, can offer CL football and have more experienced managers. It is not realistic to finish amongst them unless big changes are made.

For us to compete at the top, one or more of the following need to happen:

FFP rules change
FSG invest massively in the club
Rodgers gets sacked
City, Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea make a disastrous managerial appointment
A top class manager is appointed
City, Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea owners sell up go bankrupt
The UEFA co-efficients change and allow 5 or 6 EPL teams to enter.

Until some of those happen, 5th or 6th place for us IS realistic, and it will keep us sane(!).
The hill is even bigger to climb now though - unless an EPL team reached the CL semi-finals or final next year, Serie A will be awarded our 4th league place entry into the CL. So we could be talking about NEEDING top 3 this time next year which will give us even more competition and less chance of success.

5th/6th is most definitely realistic now unfortunately. 4th was more than just realistic at the beginning of last summer but Rodgers made a pigs ear of transfers again unfortunately. Now 4th is pretty much a pipe dream unless something drastically changes as you say.
