Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce they have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City’s James Milner, subject to a medical.

The Reds have agreed personal terms with the England international, who will join the club on a free transfer on July 1 after his contract at the Etihad Stadium has expired.

Not really exciting is he? I just hope he is not another Joe Cole.

Good deal for free DEPENDING on the wages we are paying which are normally high for free transfers (think joe cole). If we are signing Milner at the expense of others then it's a bad signing. He certainly isn't going to help us get top 4. He's a good cog in a wheel as long as he has better players around him. Otherwise he's pretty average. Very early days, decent free signing, but it's a long summer ahead.

Not marquee but our marquee signings are usually rubbish.

Totally different types of player for a start. And cole was a washed up, injury prone player no longer wanted by his club when he came to us (in truth, he wasn't wanted by our manager either - christian purslow signed him!). Again, a complete contrast to the Milner situation.

Milner is rarely a match winner and he won't have players on the edge of their seats.....and his name won't sell many shirts or season tickets, but if his presence keeps Joe Allen out of the team then he's a very positive signing indeed.

He's no Joe Cole although I can understand the apprehension.

Really pleased we have Milner in, the guy is the genuine glue we need and being about opinions I couldn't disagree with you more Red on this one. The guy is skilful, talented, quality footballer with a lot of strength and tenacity who is also no slouch.

If it was around the 100k a week area and he turned down City at 165k it says a lot for me. Just hoping that he isn't the top of the pile and every other one in the door from now is another FSG special but I'm not holding my breath.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Its strange because City offered him 165k a week and he obviously has turned that down to play more games for us. I can't imagine him being given that much here so he must be on a wage cut. A good addition but this is only the start, we need more quality signings.
