I never trust stats too much, because you can make them show anything you want

It's a system that The Guardian use to track all events in every Premier League match, shots, passes, tackles, goals and so on.

I don't tend to look at stats very much I came across these whilst on another Liverpool forum on the exact same type of thread this is, I just felt the need to show these to prove to old Flames that Aquilani and his passing game is of a variation
not just needless 4 yard passing as he stated.

Then cue his comment that was yet another hideous retort that he does'nt need stats to show him who a good footballer is and who is'nt, yet he's judging Aquilani on 7 games he's featured and in thos 7 games we've won 6 drawn 1, he has 7 assists 1 goal in them and everytime he's featured for us I have been more and more impressed, the lad has come from a different country, to try to adjust to a different style of football, after 5 years of injuries, yet he's knocking the lad without even giving the lad a full season to make that judgement, pathetic IMO, lets play Lucas instead.

you failed to realise that you have also judged him on seven games, so one finger pointing at me, four pointing back at you.

and i also never suggested we play lucas. i dont rate him either.

Where have I judged him, please point this out to me, I have been impressed when he's featured yes, but said whether he's going to be an hit, no I have'nt.

I simply will not judge the lad on 7 games that he's featured in regarding whether he can cut it or not in the Premier League, I'd prefer to give him a full season or consecutive appearances before giving such an opinion on whether he can cut it or not in England, whereas you come out with a comment that he makes too many needless 4 yard passes and what I showed proved you to be wrong, and no it does'nt determine whether he's any good or not, it just proves a point, plain and simple.

stats may not prove anything one way or the other, but they can be a useful tool to look back on after the event ..... during a footie match, for instance, it is far too easy to be swept along on a tide of emotion rather than watching in a detached manner and really seeing what happens ....... that is why fans will often be on the back of players other teams would love to have ..... not because they are crap but because they have made a mistake which has turned the crowd against them, then everything good they do is ignored because the crowd are looking for mistakes which they pounce on

i believe lucas is suffering this at the moment ...... i am not saying he is the answer to our prayers or anything, but it is clear he is being stifled by rafa's system ..... the moment he is given freedom he looks a far better player, but still everyone is on his back

I think Lucas has done enough this season as well to know he's a decent player

i still reserve judgement on Lucas

right well lets wrap this up tarns and put it to bed. you think he still think he has something to offer, in your opinion. i dont think ihe has, in my opinion. if i choose to make that judgement on what i have seen so far, then thats my choice. at the end of the day there is no proof that either of us is right. its all speculation, measured through varying amounts of stats and observation.
