Carra is always overly harsh IMO. Maybe if he's that bothered he'd get off his arse and out if his nice warm studio and get coaching / managing.

As for Can, he's doing better than can be expected if a midfielder in defence. Gerard's injury should see him move forward. I know it's a risk playing with the defence but I think it's a risk worth taking if it keeps Allen out of the team.

I'd agree with this, time for our £20mil centre back Lovren to prove his worth. Unfortunately I think Allen may start away at Palace. Do we know how long Lucas is out for?

harsh maybe, but no great loss anymore, and we're going to be without him every game after may anyway, so good opportunity to start getting used to it.

I think Lovren should play RCB and we should move Can into the midfield. Lucas shielding the backline has been a major part of our defense lately, and Can seems to be the only one qualified to do it.

So BR is left with two options: A direct swap between Gerrard and Allen keeping the defense intact, or pushing Can into midfield and replacing him by Lovren/Johnson. Both options are risky, but one thing is for sure, Allen should be kept away from the team and sold at the first opportunity. Judging by what he did against Spurs, I presume he'll take the second option.

When Can was in Germany, he actually played more games in defence than midfield so I don't see why many people (carragher included) are so sure that he's a midfielder. The evidence suggest otherwise....

Not really. He played there because of an injury their team had, but at Bayern before that and when Leverkusen didn't have deficiencies, he was playing as a CM. He was also playing left back when he played defense there, not CB. His best attributes are honestly his power on the ball, his ability to run with it, and his passing game. He's a good tackler, but you could see when he was up against Hazard and players like that, he's not really a natural defender. He's a decent one, and a good footballer, and this situation gave us a chance to find a place to blood him in, but his long term position is going to be in the midfield. Given the way our midfield gets overrun without Lucas in it lately, I think that's for the best.

Problem is Toure is getting past it and Lovern lived off his sidekick at Southampton and is now found out. If we had scouts who were scouts and not louts we would have known that and saved 23m. Our owners need to get their heads out of that great big sabermetrics hole they’ve dug for themselves, and us as well! If I were Rodgers I’d leave Can where he currently has him, and leave Lovern and Toure where he has them as well.
