You're right it's tougher but I don't see another way. And I reckon that's how FSG are playing it too; players of serious potential brought on together over 2-3 years. Shames they didn't spot Pogba 2 years ago.
FSG has bottled it with the stadium; price of borrowing and the hike in TV rights makes now the ideal time to go for the big project.

I happened in Germany with Dortmund and let's not forget we almost did it ourselves last season, we were whiskers away!

Last season will always be a painful memory. Our first title in ages was in our hands and we let it slip, no pun intended. How different things would have been will always be a matter of conjecture. Sadly we failed at the last hurdle to do a Dortmund or an Atletico.

It comes down to perspective. The club management 20+ yrs ago was caught out by the shift into the premier league and did little long term planning of what to do with the hike in money available, increased worldwide exposure etc... We've never caught up and in light of FFP will find it difficult to do so in the foreseeable.
Doing an Atletico Madrid (good management, smart buying, hard graft) rather than a Man City (sugar daddy) is likely our only way back to the top. Like them or loathe them, FSG have a strategy and that's something we haven't had for some time. First paragraph bang on mate. Second, do you really think an English team will ever be able to do that. I mean its remarkable Atletico managed to do it even with 2 rich clubs in their league. And whilst doing well again are incredibly unlikely to win the title again this or next year. For an English team to win in such a manner we have to rely on 3 (probably 4) richer and better clubs all having a poor season while we have the season of our lives. Even with high spending, the 3rd best (possibly 2nd best) player in the world last season, and the 4 'best' clubs in the country having bad seasons we still just missed out. I don't see any English club ever pulling an Atletico. But honestly I would take Liverpool just getting regular Champions league football for a while to try and repair some of the damage that's been done, though with our 'stadium plan' even that won't do it. Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid 4-0 in their last La Liga game and are only 4 points behind them in the table so I wouldn't say they can't win La Liga again. Their model and Simeone's work is to be admired, they have managed to stay competitive despite the constant selling of their best players year after year. They have lost Aguero, Diego Costa, Courtois (I know he was only on loan but he was there for a long time) Filipe Luis and obviously Fernando Torres going back a bit further. If Simeone were to go to City like is rumoured then I feel they would overtake Chelsea as being the best team in this country.

Simeone is no rich mans coach and he'll lose his edge with a team like City. He'd be more suited for us imo.

I think he should stay right where he is. He's working wonders there, and he's loved. Let him continue to challenge the status quo there.

I did forget Falcao, apologies. Just further proves my point though.
In regards to Simeone I think he is the best coach in European football.

He's such a great motivator. All his players look like they'd die for him.
