Where does everyone get this selling club mentality from?
How many player have we sold for a profit other than Suarez?
The player wants to stay at the club and the agent is trying to get the best deal for him and the club is trying to get the best deal for Liverpool. This is nothing new and goes on all the time.

I think it comes from being out of the Champions league, both torres and Suarez being desperate to leave for other teams, the kind of player we actually buy etc etc

Torres, Alonso, Mascherano, Miereles, just to name a few. All sold for profit. We are no longer a top club so we will continue to sell our best players for profit. My gut feeling tells me Sterling is gone in the summer and him signing a new contract will confirm that.

Come on Duncan. You know we're only offering a new contract to maximise our profit on him  This might sound crazy.....but.....maybe we're offering him a new contract because he's one of our best players and we want to keep him? Yep and I think this is what is going on too. But there will always be those who will make a conspiracy out of it and say it's all about the release clause so they can sell him on.

Plenty of our first choice players have left for a profit in recent years. Alonso, Mascherano, Arbeloa, Torres, Suarez are the most obvious ones.

Torres and Masherano wanted the move where Alonso and Miereles were sold because at the time the club didnt want them. Its not like we are Arsenal who sell there best player once a year.

Arsenal are in a better position than Liverpool currently, they are very well off financially, have a new stadium with no debt attached to it and qualify for the Champions League, not bad for a side who sell their best player every year as you say.
They also have world established players like Ozil (who for the record I don't rate), Sanchez and Santi Cazorla.
