If the big players played, we could've nicked 1 but leaked so the selection was brilliant. BR is a genius

What I understand is that you are so happy that we were not humiliated, this says it all. So BR is a genius after a loss. I wonder what he would have been if we would have drawn, a god? I am not even asking if we would have won. Did you notice that Basel won easily against Ludogorets who we struggled to beat at home? Some people are so happy after a loss now, I think we should be crying.

Cloud cuckoo land.

Our young inexperienced lads did very well tonight, we are building for the future, and BR is doing very well.

The happy clappy brigade make me laugh even harder

We have lost 3-0 @ home to Madrid
We have drawn 0-0 @ home to the Mighty Hull Tigers
We have lost 1-0 away to Newcastle, yip seriously
We have lost tonight 1-0 away to Madrid and anyone who complains is negative.

Are you serious, are you seriously trying to claim a moral victory from another defeat.

Ah yes shags - but we got those poor results and performances with our 'first team' and supposed best players... so how is it wrong of BR to try some new players and combinations? There is no 'happy brigade' - no one is happy about things. There is no 'apologists' as Flamey calls them - no one is apologising for the way things are. There is simply a difference in opinion as to what to do this moment about it. The 'Sack BR' brigade are basically the same posters that went after Dalglish - and once again they have no ideas but to jump back on the manager merry-go-round. It's got nothing to do with 'moral victories' and all the other hyperbolic tripe being tossed around - it simply has to do with being reasonable and following the correct course of action. Being facile and spiteful about the situation - gloating over fellow fans' disappointment - none of it is productive. There is nothing wrong with trying to find things to build on - that's what all clubs, all managers, all owners have to do. The legends at our club had to do it - Shanks pulled us out of a far worse era than this.

Do you think we should play the same team against Chelsea? Would that be our best team now? I agree though that there is nothing wrong to change things especially if we had no chance of beating RM away.

We sell one player and Rodgers ends up not knowing his best squad/formation anymore, I am wondering whether he got it by chance last season. That's serious stuff. It would be acceptable if we were not fighting for the title, I fact, for me Chelsea was going to win it anyway, but to play so badly and having a shout at 4th only because Arsenal is also struggling baffles me. I wonder what would have happened if Rodgers was in Koeman's place, ie, taking over a team who had lost half of it's top players. I personally don't believe that he has it in him to get us to become Champions one day.

What baffles me is that we worked so hard last season be in the CL, and now that we are, we oops it up, even from the first game you could see that we did play like a team who deserved to be in it. If some of our players had the balls to try and at least take a shot or make an intelligent pass, then i think we could've at least drawn the game.

Correction." We did NOT play like a team who deserved to be in the CL"

Absolute joke of a thread.

Rodgers sent out his reserves as he thought we were going to get battered,so he thought he would rest his first teamers for Chelsea.

We played ultra defensively, I think in the end we had about 5 shots against their 30. We were extremely lucky not to be 5-0 down in the first 20 mins, Lady Luck shone brightly last night and the tactic of man handling Ronaldo seemed to work.

Rodgers looked a defeated man, the commentators were bewildered with his actions, you try hard to get in to the champions league and then when you're there, you try your hardest to get knocked out as you're playing in too many competitions. Shameful. Rafa would have set up to try and win.

After the match Rodgers was asked if he had tough decisions in regards to his team selection against Chelsea due to how well we played last night, he said "well no actually" WTF just dismissing half his squad in order to keep the high earners happy.

He brought Sterling on for the last 30 mins, he made no attempt to even attack the ball, just passed back and got rid of the ball before he got challenged, Gerrard just sprayed balls across the park without even looking to see if anyone was there. We looke even worst in the last half an hour with these first teamers on an not a surprise that Real had 3 clear cut opportunities in the last 10 minutes when we ha given up.

No manager will make us champions, not even your beloved Maureen, while FSG are in charge of us. The manager isn't the real issue here. Whole sale changes are needed if we are to ever challenge again.

As for Saturday next I'm hopeful and I believe a win is possible, can't say I'm confident though, because once again there's a huge gulf in class between the two squads. The unpalatable truth is if we're to win we'll have to play above ourselves. Focusing on particular performances both good and bad misses the point, and the point is why should we support or make excuses for a recruitment policy that inevitably results in a continual dumbing down of the squad quality? Imo that's where the blame lies, I.e. with those who set the policy and not those who are constrained to implement it. As long as the owners persist with this policy we will always have to play above ourselves to beat any decent side, whether it's in the PL or the CL.

You talk far too much sense at the best of times mate but it is definitely the largest contributory factor to our plight. I've notice too that the quality journalists around (if I can get away with that) have picked up on this of late and I've seen certain players now referenced as a 'committee buy' in recent stories e.g. Lambert.

Don't think there was much wrong with BR's reasoning tonight and not going to bash him. The positives and possibly some of the reasons he did what he did for me:

We had very little chance of winning on abysmal current form -he played the probabilities

He knows progression will come from victories against others in the group and that is still very possible especially with Sturridge back

The game against Chelsea is far more pivotal

Made a statement to a few of the players taking positions for granted and big time Charlie brigade.

Giving fringe players a chance to genuinely shine/push out the complacent.

I'm glad even though he is under pressure he is still able to do what he did and not just wither away. I'm not now his greatest fan but some of the negativity borders on the ridiculous especially considering there are many at the club equally as responsible for our current state not just the manager.

For me the next game is important as the rest players should be fresh for the chavs.

Defeat there and criticism will come a plenty

I agree with posts just gone FSG are responsible for our plight Rodgers might have to be moved on eventually but unless there is a fundamental change at the top either new owners or substantial change in strategy this club is going nowhere
